What are the responsibilities and job description for the Financial Controller position at Manta Search?
**This role is fully onsite in Marietta, remote applications will not be considered**
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Financial Reporting & Close
- Lead the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close process for all corporate and franchise entities
- Prepare and review consolidated financial statements in accordance with GAAP
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting of financial results to the CFO and executive leadership team
- Maintain the general ledger and chart of accounts; oversee all journal entries and account reconciliations
Lease Accounting (ASC 842)
- Own end-to-end lease accounting compliance under ASC 842, including identification, classification, and measurement of right-of-use assets and lease liabilities
- Manage lease accounting software (e.g., LeaseQuery, CoStar, or similar) and maintain an accurate and complete lease portfolio for all locations
- Coordinate with Real Estate and Operations teams on new lease executions, renewals, modifications, and terminations
- Prepare required disclosures and ensure proper presentation of lease obligations in financial statements
- Stay current with FASB guidance and advise leadership on the financial impact of new or amended leases
Franchise Accounting & Operations
- Oversee franchisee royalty calculations, billings, and collections; reconcile royalty revenue to franchise agreements
- Support the accounting for franchise development fees, initial fees, and renewal fees
- Collaborate with franchise support and development teams to ensure financial compliance across the franchise system
- Assist in onboarding new franchise entities and establishing consistent accounting practices
Internal Controls & Compliance
- Design, implement, and monitor internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial integrity
- Serve as primary liaison for external auditors; coordinate annual audit and review processes
- Manage sales tax, use tax, and other indirect tax compliance across operating jurisdictions
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal regulatory requirements
Treasury & Cash Management
- Oversee daily cash management, bank reconciliations, and cash flow forecasting
- Manage banking relationships and monitor credit facilities
Team Leadership
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of accounting professionals
- Establish departmental goals, manage performance, and create a culture of continuous improvement
- Identify and implement process improvements and automation opportunities within the accounting function
QUALIFICATIONS
Required
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field
- 7 years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 3 years in a supervisory or management role
- Demonstrated expertise in lease accounting under ASC 842, including software implementation experience
- Strong working knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting requirements
- Experience in a franchising, multi-unit retail, restaurant, or similar business environment
- Proficiency with ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, Sage Intacct, QuickBooks Enterprise) and Excel
Preferred
- CPA license (strongly preferred)
- Public accounting background (Big 4 or regional firm)
- Experience with lease accounting software (LeaseQuery, CoStar, Visual Lease, or equivalent)
- Familiarity with franchise disclosure documents (FDD) and franchise agreement financial terms
- Experience supporting mergers, acquisitions, or franchise system growth
