Our client is seeking a Corporate Staff Accountant that will support the accounting operations of a growing real estate organization, working closely with the Head of Accounting and finance team to ensure accurate financial reporting and compliance. This role is hands-on across the general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and payroll, with exposure to month-end close, property-level accounting, and financial analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
General Ledger & Month-End Close
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts across multiple entities and properties
- Prepare and post journal entries, accruals, and reclassifications
- Assist with month-end and year-end close processes
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and balance sheet accounts
- Support preparation of financial statements and internal reporting packages
Accounts Payable (AP)
- Process vendor invoices, code expenses accurately, and ensure proper approvals
- Manage vendor setup and W-9 documentation
- Prepare weekly check runs and ACH payments
- Reconcile AP subledger to the general ledger
- Respond to vendor inquiries and resolve discrepancies
Accounts Receivable (AR)
- Prepare and post tenant billings, rent charges, CAM, and other recoveries
- Apply cash receipts and manage unapplied cash
- Assist with AR aging, collections follow-ups, and tenant account reconciliations
- Support security deposit tracking and reconciliations
Payroll Support
- Assist with payroll processing, including review of timesheets and payroll reports
- Record payroll journal entries and reconcile payroll-related accounts
- Support benefits, taxes, and payroll-related audits as needed
Additional Responsibilities
- Assist with audit and tax support requests
- Maintain accurate documentation and support schedules
- Identify process improvements and support system enhancements
- Perform ad hoc accounting and financial analysis projects as assigned
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required
- 2–4 years of accounting experience; real estate or property accounting experience strongly preferred
- Solid understanding of GAAP and general ledger accounting
- Experience with AR, AP, and payroll processes
- Proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUP/XLOOKUP preferred)
- Experience with accounting systems (Yardi, MRI, AppFolio, Sage, NetSuite, or similar preferred)
- Strong attention to detail with excellent organizational and time-management skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment
Preferred Experience
- Exposure to multi-entity or multi-property accounting environments
- CAM reconciliations and tenant billings
- Month-end close in a real estate or property management setting
