About the Role



As a Connections Coach at Mansfield Hall Burlington, you will support students in our post-residential transition program as they build the academic, independent living, and self-advocacy skills needed for success in college and adulthood. This is a 24-hour per week part-time role that combines academic coaching, life skills coaching, student planning, family communication, and campus/community resource navigation.


You will work directly with students living as college students in the community, helping them manage coursework, access campus supports, build routines, strengthen executive functioning skills, and continue progressing toward greater independence. This role is relational, practical, and student-centered. It requires someone who can build fun and engaging relationships while also providing structure, accountability, and thoughtful guidance.

This is a meaningful role for someone who enjoys supporting diverse learners, partnering with families and stakeholders, and helping students move from supported participation toward more confident, independent engagement in college and community life.


What You’ll Do

  • Support Student Growth and Independence
  • Meet regularly with students to support academic progress, independent living skills, goal development, and access to campus and community resources
  • Support students in developing the organizational and self-advocacy skills needed for college and community life
  • Develop and Monitor Student PlansMonitor student progress toward goals and adjust support strategies as needs change
  • Support College and Community Navigation
  • Help students understand and access academic supports, disability services, library resources, tutoring, and other campus services
  • Collaborate with Families, Teams, and Community PartnersCollaborate with the Connections team to ensure student plans and supports are aligned
  • Contribute to Program Operations and Culture
  • Model accountability, respectful communication, and a student-centered approach
  • Support program needs as they arise and contribute to a supportive, inclusive, and encouraging learning community
  • Maintain student planning, academic, and communication records using Google Suite
  • Participate in supervision meetings, staff meetings, community meetings, and Connections events
  • Communicate regularly with parents, referral sources, campus partners, and community resources
  • Encourage student participation in events, services, and opportunities across area campuses and the community
  • Guide students through college processes, including registration, course planning, important deadlines, and campus resource use
  • Provide timely updates on student growth, barriers, and next steps to the Connections Director, parents, and other stakeholders
  • Support the development of individualized Pathway to Independence Plans in collaboration with students, families, and team members
  • Build positive, fun, and engaging relationships with students while maintaining clear expectations and professional boundaries
  • Help students build routines, use planning systems, manage responsibilities, and follow through on commitments
  • Serve as both an Academic Coach and Life Skills Coach for students in the Connections Program


What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in behavioral sciences, education, psychology, social work, student affairs, special education, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • Two or more years of experience working with diverse learners and stakeholders, preferably in a higher education setting
  • Experience supporting students and stakeholders around academic, social, or developmental growth in a higher education or transition-focused environment
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills
  • Ability to build strong professional relationships with students, families, community partners, therapists, campus resources, and other stakeholders
  • Proven ability to work independently, including in a flexible-space environment
  • Ability to support students in working toward personal, academic, and independent living goals
  • Ability to balance relational connection with structure, accountability, and follow-through
  • Comfort using Google Suite and maintaining student planning, communication, and academic tracking systems
  • A genuine passion for supporting team goals, student success, and meaningful growth

  • The Connections Director and team have clear visibility into student progress, barriers, and support needs
  • Student plans are realistic, meaningful, individualized, and aligned across the support team
  • Students experience Mansfield Hall as a supportive, engaging, and growth-oriented community

By combining academic coaching, life skills coaching, family communication, and campus navigation, the Connections Coach helps students move from supported participation toward meaningful independence.
