What's the Job?
- Lead the site engineering function at a Process Safety Management (PSM) chemical plant, defining and driving annual and multiyear CAPEX priorities.
- Provide technical direction, organizational support, and coaching to production and project engineers while balancing day-to-day production support with long-term improvements.
- Own and execute the site capital plan—develop project scopes, estimates, business cases, approval requests, and oversee budgets, schedules, risks, and contractors.
- Strengthen process safety through engineering support for Management of Change (MOC), PHAs/HAZOPs, pre-startup safety reviews, and closure of recommendations and audit findings.
- Drive production support and reliability improvements by guiding troubleshooting, ensuring rigorous root cause analyses, partnering on mechanical integrity, and supporting operating procedures, training, and startups/shutdowns.
- Degree in Chemical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
- Significant chemical manufacturing experience, including work in a PSM-covered facility and leadership of engineers or multidisciplinary technical teams.
- Demonstrated capability in production troubleshooting, CAPEX planning, project execution, MOC, process hazard analysis, and incident investigation.
- Strong technical judgment, organizational skills, communication, and financial awareness; ability to interpret P&IDs and engineering specifications.
- Experience with batch and continuous processes, reaction systems, separations, utilities, and process controls preferred.
- Opportunity to lead engineering strategy that directly improves safe, reliable, efficient manufacturing and disciplined project delivery.
- Clear ownership of CAPEX planning and execution—from scope and business case through design, procurement, construction, commissioning, and handover.
- Impactful role in strengthening PSM compliance and process safety culture through MOC, PHAs/HAZOPs, and pre-startup safety reviews.
- Hands-on influence on production stability, yield, throughput, cycle time, quality, energy use, and manufacturing cost.
- Site-based role with regular plant engagement and occasional off-hours support for incidents, shutdowns, and startups.
