We are seeking a dependable, compassionate, and highly organized Medical Assistant to join our team. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working in a fast-paced outpatient environment and interacting with a diverse patient population.
Position Summary
The Medical Assistant plays an important role in supporting our healthcare providers and ensuring patients receive efficient, professional, and compassionate care.
This position includes a combination of clinical and administrative responsibilities. The Medical Assistant will assist with patient intake, preparation for provider visits, clinical testing, documentation, communication, and maintaining an organized clinical environment.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients and provide a professional and welcoming experience.
- Escort patients to examination rooms and prepare them for provider visits.
- Obtain and document vital signs, including blood pressure, pulse, temperature, respirations, oxygen saturation, height, and weight.
- Review and document patient medications, allergies, medical history, and reason for visit according to office procedures.
- Assist healthcare providers during examinations and procedures as appropriate.
- Perform permitted specimen collection and point-of-care testing after appropriate training and competency verification.
- Assist with urine drug screening and specimen handling according to established procedures.
- Assist with laboratory preparation, specimen labeling, processing, and documentation.
- Prepare examination rooms before patient visits and clean and disinfect rooms between patients.
- Maintain clinical supplies and notify appropriate staff when supplies need to be reordered.
- Assist with scheduling, referrals, medical records, forms, and other patient-care coordination.
- Answer and route patient telephone calls and messages to the appropriate clinical or administrative staff.
- Assist with prior authorization documentation and other administrative tasks as assigned.
- Enter accurate and timely information into the electronic health record.
- Maintain patient confidentiality and comply with HIPAA requirements.
- Follow infection prevention, safety, and quality-control procedures.
- Provide respectful and nonjudgmental support to patients receiving mental health and substance use disorder services.
- Communicate patient concerns or abnormal findings promptly to the appropriate licensed healthcare professional.
- Work collaboratively with providers, nurses, administrative staff, and other members of the healthcare team.
- Perform additional duties within the Medical Assistant's training, competency, and permitted scope as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Completion of a Medical Assistant program preferred.
- Medical Assistant certification or registration preferred but not required unless otherwise required for assigned duties.
- Previous experience in a medical office, primary care, behavioral health, addiction medicine, or outpatient setting is preferred.
- CPR/BLS certification preferred.
- Strong communication and customer-service skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Basic computer skills and ability to learn electronic health record systems.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Must demonstrate compassion and professionalism when working with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
