The Assistant to Floor Manager is responsible for assisting in overseeing the daily operations of Manna Market food distribution at Substance Church under the supervision of the Floor Manager of Manna Market. This role ensures that food distribution activities run smoothly, safely, and efficiently, while maintaining strong relationships with volunteers. The Assistant to Floor Manager provides leadership, operational oversight, and continuous improvement to ensure Manna Market’s mission is carried out with excellence and integrity.
Primary Responsibilities
Operations & Distribution Oversight
-Complete tasks related to the daily operations of Manna Market food distribution at Substance Church.
-Participate in day-to-day food distribution operations to ensure efficiency and safety.
-Assist in the proper set-up, tear-down, and clean-up of the parking lot for distributions.
-Fill in as needed when additional help is required during distribution, including bulk foods and curbside crew.
-Work to ensure the operation runs smoothly and optimally at all times.
-Act as an ambassador to promote Manna Market and help with recruiting volunteers.
-Attend promotional events.
Food Storage & Safety
- Work directly with Floor Manager and volunteers to ensure food is stored in a manner that is accessible and maximizes limited floor space.
-Work with Floor Manager or respective assigned employee who orders to ensure adequate quantities of food—including meat, milk, eggs, dry goods, and deli items—are available during distribution times.
-Work with staff and volunteers to organize the walk-in cooler and freezer to ensure food can be easily accessed when needed.
-Ensure the safe handling of all food, including maintaining proper temperatures, cleanliness, and food safety standards.
-Obtain and maintain a certified food handler license.
Volunteer & Training Oversight
-Support staff and volunteers during distribution and warehouse operations.
-Train volunteers on proper procedures and responsibilities in their assigned areas.
-Provide guidance to volunteers to ensure duties are carried out effectively and consistently.
Leadership & Organizational Relationships
-Act in the best interest of Manna Market, YouthWay Ministries, and Substance Church at all times.
-Continually evaluate operations and identify opportunities for improvement.
Education and Experience
-High school diploma or equivalent (GED) required.
-Food handling certification required (or ability to obtain within a six month period from start of employment).
-Previous experience in one or more of the following areas preferred:
- Food distribution or food shelf operations
- Volunteer coordination or staff supervision
- Warehouse or logistics management
-Experience working in a faith-based or nonprofit environment is a plus.
Physical and Environmental Requirements
-Ability to lift and move items up to 40-50 lbs. as needed.
-Ability to stand, walk, bend, and move throughout distribution events.
-Comfortable working in cold environments, including walk-in coolers and freezers.
-Ability to work outdoors during distribution in varying weather conditions.
Pay: From $20.00 per hour
Expected hours: 35.0 – 40.0 per week
