Our Purchasing Manager will lead and manage all procurement activities, including strategic sourcing, supplier development, and cost optimization across direct, indirect, and service categories. Ensures supply continuity, quality, and alignment with global and local business needs. This is an on-site position at our Charleston, SC, facility.
Role Responsibilities:
- Oversee and assume full accountability for all direct, indirect, and service-related procurement activities.
- Ensure the quality and availability of required raw materials to support seamless operational purchasing processes.
- Support operational efficiency by maintaining accurate and reliable material and supplier data.
- Serve as the escalation point for resolving supply disruptions or quality-related issues.
- Collaborate with relevant departments to manage, coordinate, and define service requirements.
- Work cross-functionally to determine demand and clarify specifications.
- Consolidate demand across various global sites.
- Identify and drive cost optimization initiatives to improve procurement efficiency.
- Partner with local R&D teams to identify and qualify alternative materials that meet business and technical requirements.
- Monitor and analyze local market conditions to support strategic sourcing decisions.
- Conduct global pricing and contract negotiations, often in collaboration with counterparts at international locations.
- Develop, implement, and refine supplier strategies in alignment with organizational goals.
- Drive the strategic development and performance management of key suppliers.
- Conduct comprehensive research and evaluations to identify and onboard potential suppliers.
- Proactively manage the material and supplier portfolios to ensure alignment with business needs and market trends.
- Own and deliver on key performance indicators (KPIs) relevant to procurement effectiveness and efficiency.
- Lead and develop the local purchasing team while ensuring alignment with the international procurement structure and strategy.
Role Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field required or the equivalent years of experience.
- Experience in procurement of chemical raw materials preferred.
- Experience with SAP software.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
- Excellent computer proficiency (Microsoft Office – Word, Excel, Outlook and Powerpoint).
- Demonstrated high level of reliability, accountability, and follow-through in a dynamic work environment.
- Proven ability to think strategically and develop innovative, solution-oriented approaches to complex challenges.
- Must be able to work under pressure and meet deadlines while maintaining a positive attitude.
- The position requires the ability to travel both domestically and internationally.
- Ability to work independently and carry out assignments to completion within parameters of instructions given, prescribed routines and standard accepted practices.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.
- Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.
- Exposure to fumes and hazardous chemicals.
- This position requires prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
