TITLE: Assistant Director of Summer Program

REPORTS TO: Executive Director

POSITION: Non-Exempt, Temporary: Summer 2026, 30 – 40 hours per week (based on applicant’s preference)

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

This is a temporary position.

The individuals filling this role are responsible to support the planning, development, and implementation of summer programing for youth between kindergarten and ninth grade.

In this position, a person will work with the Program Director to plan, implement, and evaluate activities across all areas, including Education & Career Development, Sports, Fitness & Recreation, The Arts, Character & Leadership Development, and Health & Life Skills.

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):

Leadership

Work with the Program Director to plan and oversee summer programs, activities and services that prepare youth for success and that create an environment that facilitates achievement of our members.

Work with the Program Director to ensure a healthy and safe environment, ensuring facilities, equipment and supplies are maintained.

Exercise authority in relation to members and staff, utilizing guidance and discipline plan.

Provide exemplary leadership for staff through open communication, regular staff meetings and daily actions.

Strategic Planning

Work with the Program Director to implement and evaluate overall organization programs, services and activities to ensure they meet stated objectives and member needs and interests.

Outcome Management

Maintain accurate records for reporting member and program data.

Compile regular reports reflecting all activities, attendance and participation.

Resource Management

Work with the Program Director to ensure administrative and operational systems are in place to maintain the operation of the physical properties and equipment of the organization. Ensure compliance with organization policies.

Supervision

  • Work with the Program Director to train and manage program staff; provide ongoing feedback; and identify and support development opportunities. Ensure a productive work environment.
  • Work as a team member, contribute to team meetings.
  • Manage your own time and resources; continuously develop your own knowledge and skills.
  • Support training of program staff and volunteers that facilitate member outcomes.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Exercise authority in problems relating to members; utilize guidance and discipline plan.
  • Assume other duties as assigned.
  • Ensure proper record keeping and reporting, including activities and events conducted, breakdowns of daily participation figures, notable achievements and any problems/issues.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Organization professional staff to interpret and explain organizational mission, program objectives and standards, discuss issues, and provide/receive information. Has regular contact with members as needed to discipline, advise, and counsel.

External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems and to publicize Organization.

SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • A minimum of two years’ work experience working with youth in school, camp, afterschool or similar settings.
  • Demonstrated ability in personnel supervision and the recruitment and retention of key personnel.
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Ability to deal effectively with members including discipline problems.
  • Demonstrated ability in working with young people, parents and community leaders.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • CPR and First Aid Certifications
  • Some college in related field from an accredited college or university
  • Preference will be given to applicants age 21 and older who are able to drive our vans

The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 25 pounds. The employee is required to drive a vehicle for extended periods of time. Specific vision abilities required by this job include depth perception. The employee is required to sit for periods of time to perform functions on the computer.
