POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Head Swim Team Coach, the Assistant Swim Team Coach assists with organizing the swim team and supporting the planning and direction of practices, including the instruction, motivation, and development of swimmers in proper techniques and competitive strategies. This position is responsible for observing and enforcing all pool rules, safety standards, and YMCA policies while helping create a safe, positive, and motivating environment that promotes skill development, teamwork, confidence, and sportsmanship
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
· Assist the Head Coach with instruction for swimmers of all ages and skill levels in the rules, regulations, equipment, and techniques of the sport, and support both short- and long-term team goals.
· Organize, supervise, and conduct practices, and attend swim meets as directed by the Head Coach.
· Assess swimmers’ skills and performance during practices and competitions and keep the Head Coach informed of progress and development.
· Follow established procedures in the event of an emergency or injury.
· Always model sportsmanlike behavior and a positive attitude, maintaining appropriate conduct toward swimmers, parents/guardians, staff, officials, spectators, and volunteers.
· Maintain open communication with the Head Coach, including but not limited to changes in workouts, additional practice times, correspondence from swimmers and parents/guardians, and equipment needs or purchases.
· Assist the Head Coach with compiling and submitting a list of award recipients at the end of the season.
· Perform other related duties as assigned by the Aquatic Lead or Head Coach.
· Document and report all significant behaviors, incidents, and disciplinary actions in accordance with YMCA behavior management procedures.
· Follows all YMCA policies, procedures, and safety standards, including emergency response, first aid, and incident reporting requirements.
· Attends and participates in all scheduled staff meetings and required training to maintain current certifications and uphold YMCA quality and safety standards.
QUALIFICATIONS
· Prior swim or coaching experience.
· Must be 18 years of age or older.
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMAND
· Must be able to always remain alert and attentive while instructing and supervising participants.
· Must possess adequate hearing and visual acuity to recognize and respond to distress signals, emergencies, and other safety concerns.
· Must be able to communicate clearly and project voice across distances in both normal and loud environments.
· Must be comfortable working in and around water for extended periods, including standing, bending, and moving in a pool environment.
- CPR & AED certification is required and must be completed within 90 days of hire.
- Must complete YMCA-required abuse prevention and mandatory reporting training within 30 days of hire and remain current with all ongoing compliance training.
