What are the responsibilities and job description for the FT Security Officer Substitute, Elementary Schools position at Manheim Central School District?
The Manheim Central School District is anticipating a temporary vacancy in our security team from November 2025 to potentially March 2026 but possibly until June 2026. We are seeking a motivated and responsible individual to assist our team as a FT Security Officer Substitute __ preference would be for individuals trained/certified to be armed, however, the district will consider security candidates who can only operate unarmed.

Essential Functions:
Campus Surveillance: Regularly survey district buildings and grounds to identify potential safety hazards, security issues, and unauthorized individuals.
Preserve Order: Provide a reassuring presence to students, staff, and visitors to maintain order and protect property throughout the school day.
Emergency Response: Notify authorities promptly in emergencies and follow district procedures for emergency situations.
Access Control: Monitor and authorize entrances and departures of authorized personnel, employees, and visitors.
Safety Support: Assist in situations involving student and community safety, offering guidance and support.
Safety Planning: Review and advise school administration on safety plans, evacuation procedures, video surveillance, and other safety-related matters.
Protocol Adherence: Ensure strict adherence to safety and security protocols and procedures across the district.
Reporting: Maintain accurate records by writing reports on daily activities, irregularities, and safety concerns. Inform supervisors promptly of safety issues.
Disturbance Response: Answer alarms, investigate disturbances, and intervene as needed.
Training Participation: Participate in training as mandated by the Manheim Central School District.
Classroom Support: Provide classroom support by assisting staff in lessons related to law enforcement and safety.
Safety Education: Educate students, parents/guardians, and staff on personal safety, bus safety, and anti-crime practices.
Community Engagement: Act as a liaison between the school district and the community regarding school safety.
First Aid: Render first aid to accident victims and individuals requiring immediate assistance.
Equipment Maintenance: Properly care for and store security equipment and accessories.
Student Searches: Conduct searches of students when necessary, following established guidelines.
Use of Force: Use weapons or physical force responsibly to maintain security when needed.
Marginal Functions:
- Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor/administrator.
- Maintain visibility and a positive presence on Manheim Central campuses.
Preferred Requirements (armed qualified candidates must have all requirements prior to first working day):
- Licensed under the Uniform Firearms Act (unless an active or retired law enforcement officer)
- Certification under the Lethal Weapons Training Act (unless an active or retired law enforcement officer)
Required (armed and unarmed candidates must have all requirements prior to first working day):
- Basic School Resource Officer Course offered by the National Association of School Resource Officers or an equivalent course approved by The Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency
- Strong leadership skills, effective communication, and good moral character.
- Current CPR, AED, and First-Aid certification
- High School Diploma or equivalent
Other Qualifications:
- Compliance with employment eligibility, background checks, and physical examination standards
- Valid PA driver's license
