The Day-to-Day Substitute Facilities Services Technician supports the Buildings and Grounds Department in maintaining clean, safe, and functional school facilities and grounds. Under general supervision, this position performs a variety of semi-skilled maintenance, custodial, and grounds keeping tasks to ensure that district buildings and athletic areas are well maintained and ready for student and community use.
This substitute position is on an as-needed basis and is not guaranteed day-to-day work.
Key Responsibilities
Perform basic maintenance and repair work.
Assist full-time maintenance staff with facility projects and preventive maintenance tasks.
Mow, trim, and maintain district grounds, including athletic fields, lawns, and landscaped areas.
Operate and maintain district equipment such as mowers, trimmers, and small tractors.
Support snow removal operations during winter months.
Perform custodial duties as assigned, including cleaning, restocking, and minor repair work.
Ensure proper care and safety in the use of equipment, materials, and work practices.
Maintain accurate records of work performed and materials used.
Demonstrate courteous and cooperative behavior when working with staff, students, and the public.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Obtain and maintain required clearances and employment trainings.
Prior experience in maintenance, facilities, or grounds work preferred.
Ability to operate maintenance and grounds equipment safely and effectively.
Working knowledge of tools and materials used in basic building maintenance and repair.
Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license required.
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds, work outdoors in varying weather conditions, and perform physical tasks such as bending, climbing, and kneeling.
Availability for occasional weekend or after-hours assignments as needed.
- Substitute at least one day a school year to remain on the substitute employment list.
Work Environment
This position involves both indoor and outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including exposure to dust, fumes, noise, and potential hazards. Personal protective equipment is provided as required.
