Job Description

Manhattanville University is seeking adjunct professors to teach courses in Education for the Fall 2025 semester (September 2 – December 19). Please note that if the Fall semester is successful, there will be the possibility of future employment. Candidates may apply to either or both positions.

Course Descriptions

EDU.3452 Strategies for Teaching Young Children and Guiding Their Behavior

This course will focus upon the application of developmentally appropriate theories of teaching and behavioral guidance to practice in the infant, toddler and early childhood classroom. Students will be introduced to theoretical concepts and principles and shown how they may be integrated into the classroom by the use of specific methods and strategies. Topics include classroom organization, planning, instructional methods, instructional equipment and materials, grouping for instruction, teaching style, child guidance and management techniques.

EDU 3016.01/5323.01 Math, Science and Tech in EC

Examine the evolving early childhood curriculum. Focus on the design of curricula that integrate language arts, mathematics, science, instructional and assistive technology, and expressive arts in a holistic framework. Examine numerous research-validated instructional strategies for teaching students with the full range of abilities.

EDAD.8053 Introduction to Quantitative Research

In this course, students will learn how to synthesize and use many forms of evidence and knowledge when making both policy and professional practice decisions. With accountability, fiscal integrity, and quality as driving concerns, the course focuses on what education leaders need to understand, know, and do, to facilitate informed decision making. A core component of the course involves developing an understanding of the major meta-theoretical positions in education, philosophy, and social science that influence policy and practice in education: positivism/post-positivism, interpretive theory, and critical theory. The three meta-theories lead to different research questions, different research methodologies, different types of data, different ways of analyzing data, and different ways of linking theory to research and practice. Students will develop and defend a position on both the question of meta-theory/ideology and the way theory, research, and practice should be linked. At a real-world, practical level, students will learn to critically interpret simple and complex quantitative research in the experimental, correlational, and survey traditions. Further, they will learn about standard qualitative research methods (e.g., ethnography, interviews, case studies, historiography, participatory action research, instructional design, and emancipatory research).

Duties/Responsibilities

• Prepare and teach well-organized classes and present other learning opportunities for students in accordance with student learning outcomes for the course.
• Create and share syllabus/syllabi with students and Dean’s Office. This must be posted on the University’s Learning Management Software (LMS), Brightspace.
• Post assignment grades in Brightspace for students to track their academic progress.
• Hold two hours of Office Hours for students. (This can be a mix of in-person and online).
• Use Manhattanville email for correspondence with students, faculty and staff; respond to email in a timely fashion.
• Submit Roster Reconciliations, Mid-Term and Final Grades by appropriate deadlines. File Retention Alerts when student concerns arise.
• Uphold and comply with faculty duties as described in Section V of the Faculty Handbook: General Faculty Duties and Academic Opportunities.

Qualifications

Education: Graduate Degree / Doctorate

Experience: Previous teaching experience.

Physical Requirements: None.

Salary: $3,375 - $3,675 per semester

Hours Expectation

Teaching time: 2.5 hours/week

Office hours: 2 hours/week
