Role Description The library is seeking an enthusiastic person to join our team as a library assistant. The primary responsibility of this position is providing customer assistance, reader’s advisory, and supervision in the library’s children’s, teen, and adult service areas. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to creating a welcoming environment for people of all ages, races, religions, abilities, sexual orientations, gender identities and expressions, and socioeconomic statuses.
Requires a high school degree or equivalent and at least one year in customer service. Library experience, some college or equivalent education is desired. Experience working with children and teens is beneficial. This is a 25-hour-per-week position, $16.11/hour. The schedules are based on the needs of the library which include days, evenings, and weekends. The selected candidate must be available during school semester breaks, around holidays, and at least one weekday closing shift and one weekend (Saturday or Sunday) shift each week.

Qualifications
- Ability to operate a PC, iPads, relevant computer software, and technology device
- Ability to use office equipment such as copy machines, computer keyboards, computers, fax machines, etc.
- Strong customer service skills with the ability to assist a diverse public in a courteous, patient, and inclusive manner.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills for interacting with patrons, coworkers, and supervisors.
- Upholds values of patron confidentiality, intellectual freedom, and accessibility.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and lift moderate weights as needed for shelving and organizing materials.
- High school diploma or equivalent required; One year of college education, technical training, or equivalent education or experience
- Prior experience in a library, educational, or customer-facing setting is beneficial but not required.
