Summary
The Business Development Manager will manage and execute new business attraction activities of the Manhattan Area Chamber of Commerce. This position will be accountable for building an active sales pipeline in conjunction with the Manhattan Chamber and the Greater Manhattan Economic Partnership’s business attraction initiatives. These activities will include strategic communications and marketing, online and social media presence, research on industries and business climate, and external engagement with individuals and entities to generate economic development project leads. The role and responsibilities of the Business Development Manager includes, but is not restricted to, the following:
- Identify and target industries and businesses that align with the Chamber’s strategic goals for recruitment.
- Proactively contact companies to develop prospect leads from data, advertising, electronic tools, marketing trips, and business publication; implement innovative methods of new prospect development.
- Develop, inform and/or execute on the creation of target company lists.
- Develop, prepare, and deliver RFI responses, formal proposals, and sales presentations for business prospects.
- Manage sales funnel and document engagement and status of leads/prospects in CRM.
- Conduct economic, business climate, and demographic research to respond to RFIs from prospects and site selectors.
- Maintain and develop data on sector specific businesses, labor markets, regional assets, and growth opportunities.
- Develop and implement marketing strategies, including website content, social media campaigns, and other promotional activities.
- Develop and maintain online and physical marketing materials to be used in the business recruitment process.
- Ensure all Manhattan Chamber and Greater Manhattan Economic Partnership presence online and on social media is current, active, and effective.
- Represent the organization and promote the region at trade shows, conferences, and networking events.
- Develop and maintain relevant relationships with local and regional economic development agencies, workforce and labor, stakeholders and other key government agencies.
- Work with communications staff to promote a positive regional image and highlight economic development successes.
- Develop and implement strategies to earn media coverage of economic development activities and successes/wins.
- Track key performance metrics and report progress toward economic development goals to leadership, committees, investors, and governing boards.
Preferred Requirements
- Bachelor's degree required.
- Three years related experience working in business development, project manager, sales, marketing, or research role.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills.
- Excellent project management, organizational, and time management abilities.
- Experience with CRM software and market research tools.
- The ability to think strategically, analyze complex data, and exercise independent judgment.
- Proficient knowledge of computer systems, specifically Windows Microsoft Office products.
- Ability to communicate - verbal, non-verbal and listening skills with volunteers, members, peers, and coworkers.
- Able to work in fast-paced environment with changing priorities and deadlines.
- Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record.
- Able and willing to travel as needed, occasionally overnight.
- Willing and able to work evenings, weekends and holidays based on client and office demands.
- Mature approach in handling business professionals.
Physical: Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in an office setting; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight (25 lbs.); to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; to travel to other locations using various modes of private and commercial transportation; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
