What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Shop Mechanic position at Manatt's?
Summary
Performs preventive maintenance services and inspects, diagnoses and repairs vehicles and equipment. Competitive candidates will have heavy truck, heavy equipment, farm equipment, or heavy military vehicle experience along with electronic diagnostics and hydraulics experience. Well-equipped shop with boot allowance, tool allowance, uniforms and other safety gear provided.
Essential Responsibilities
- Develop, plan and coordinate the weekly shop workload based on available work hours, required work hours for repairs, parts availability, prioritize work keeping in mind forecasted weather conditions, seasonal equipment, upcoming projects, incidents and emergencies;
- Determine the cost effectiveness of repairs to equipment, the prioritization of repairs, and the available resources used to perform the repairs; monitor the budget;
- Review parts inventory and request storeroom to stock specialized and commonly used parts, and ensure items meet manufacturer specifications and recommendations;
- Monitor mechanics work for quality control and efficiency;
- Review truck replacement plan and suggest items for replacement, utilizing understanding of asset management and equipment preservation techniques;
- Conduct annual physical inventory;
- Manage specialty programs such as oil analysis program, used oil management, diesel emissions program;
- Coach, mentor, train, and guide others on planning and performance of maintenance activities, including technical aspects of equipment maintenance management;
- Manage, develop, and make decisions on performance evaluations, dispute resolution, morale, motivation/attitude, recruitment and retention, training, overtime, leave, and safety;
- Review and approve reports, work orders, leave requests, time sheets, fuel logs, supply orders, etc. completed by truck mechanics. Run various reports (inspections, material tracking, etc.) from data entered into the system;
- Work with the priority of safety over production for self, co-workers, and the traveling public at all times. Maintain current knowledge of, abide by, communicate, and enforce all safety laws, regulations, policies, and procedures and wear all required personal protective equipment;
- Lead and attend safety training and perform tailgate safety talks and safety engagements;
- Keep up with industry standards and changes for job-related equipment, tools, materials, processes, procedures, and technology, and train others as needed;
- Aid service mechanics during emergency situations;
- Other job duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 3-4 years experience as a diesel mechanic.
- Ability to perform physical requirements of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
- Successfully complete and pass pre-employment drug screen and physical.
- Legally eligible to work in the United States.
- Must have own basic hand tools.
- Must have acceptable driving record
- Strong communication skills, analytical and basic computer skills required.
- Availability to work overtime on an as needed basis.
Certifications, Licenses, Registrations and Other Requirements:
- Class A or B CDL Preferred- Willing to help obtain after hired.
