Asphalt Paver Operator (Seasonal, Statewide Travel)

Summary

The Asphalt Paver Operator operates a asphalt  paver to lay  freshly placed asphalt for roads, bike paths, parking areas, etc.  This individual will also assist with equipment maintenance and paver changes.  Other miscellaneous general laborer duties may be assigned. This is a full-time seasonal position based out of Newton, Iowa.  This individual will start working as soon as weather permits.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Additional or other duties may be assigned.

• The Equipment Operator will collaborate between field foreman and paving team, maintain production and direct asphalt trucks, and perform ground tasks such as luting and shoveling black top.

QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge, Skills and Ability

• 5 years of asphalt construction equipment experience preferred.
• CDL Class A - medical card with air brake and tanker endorsement preferred.
• Knowledge of Hydraulics and Hydrostatics.

Education and/or Experience                                                    

High school diploma or general education degree (GED).  

Mathematical Skills                                                      

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.

Reasoning Ability                                                          

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. 

Other Qualifications

• Ability to work long hours, including weekends during peak season.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced outdoor and in industrial environments.
• Ability to work seasonally.
• Acceptable driving record and a vehicle to get to the various job sites.
• Excellent work ethic
