Work Location: 2411 Tallevast Road, Sarasota, Florida 34243
Work Hours: Monday - Friday 5:00 am - 1:30 pm
Expected Starting Hourly Range: $17.36 - $21.70
A Day in the Life of a Transit Attendant
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions to keep transit areas spotless.
- Sweep platforms, empty trash bins, and sanitize surfaces.
- Operate cleaning equipment such as pressure washers, blowers, and weed trimmers.
- Use a tablet to track assignments and report completed work throughout the day.
- Report hazards or maintenance needs promptly.

Working Conditions
Indoor/Outdoor situation; high noise environment while performing certain responsibilities. Lifting equipment up to 25 lbs. alone; up to 50 lbs. with assistance.
This is a safety-sensitive position. Employment and continued employment with Manatee County Government is contingent upon passing pre-employment and random substance screenings. An applicant/employee who fails to pass a drug/alcohol screening, shall be disqualified from employment in any class for a period of three (3) years.
Job Description
Essential Functions
These are intended only as illustrations of the various types of work performed. The omission of specific duties does not exclude them from the position.
Studies bus routes, maps, etc., to acquire working knowledge of Manatee County geographical layout, bus schedules, etc.
Cleans vehicle interiors and windshields, sweeps floors, and empties trash cans on a daily basis.
Checks fluid levels, including engine oil, transmission fluid, and radiator fluid; re-fills on a daily basis.
Cleans side windows as needed.
Checks tires and notifies supervisor of flat tires or excessive wear.
Pumps gas and maintains fuel log.
Operates bus washer and pressure cleaner; spot cleans vehicle exteriors; performs minor repairs to bus cleaning equipment as needed.
Oversees Community Service Workers engaged in fleet cleaning.
Moves buses from point to point during maintenance, from time bus is left at gas pump to final parking on ready line. Spot checks vehicles after being parked on the ready line for fluid levels, cleanliness, etc.
As needed, may switch-out vehicles in order to maintain service on the road. (Only Attendants who are appropriately licensed with Florida Class B Commercial Driver License with Passenger and Air Brake endorsements may drive buses outside of the Transit yard.)
Understands and carries out oral and written instructions; advises supervisor of any problems with buses not noted on driver's write-ups; re-supplies as needed.
As needed, assists with maintenance of Transit facilities.
Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with others.
Performs other related work (including weather or other extreme emergency duties) as required.
Minimum Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Completion of 10th grade. Prior work experience cleaning/maintaining buses or transit vehicles desired. Valid Florida driver license required. Safe driving record. Supervisory or lead experience desired. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills
Knowledge of transit and passenger vehicle care and maintenance procedures.
Knowledge of applicable Manatee County Transit Division policies and procedures.
Knowledge of, and ability to operate, related small machinery (washers, power tools, etc).
Knowledge of Manatee County streets and geographical layout.
Ability to establish priorities, delegate responsibilities and meet deadlines.
Ability to coordinate and oversee the fleet-cleaning workforce.
Ability to perform job-related duties with limited supervision and make appropriate decisions and recommendations.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, orally and in writing.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
