What you will be doing: Directly supervises the career training instructors, ACT/OTP coordinator, and the secretary. Responsible for the management of career training programs which includes on and off-center training, national contractor training and career technical skills training (CTST) projects management, in compliance with government and management directives.
Essential Functions
- Plan, coordinate and manage the administrative and programmatic activities of the department
- Provide staff training; evaluate staff performance and implement departmental and personnel changes as approved by the center director and human resources manager prior to implementation
- Develop departmental budget; monitor and control expenditures; review and recommend changes to budget authorizations
- Develop and implement new and revised policies and procedures affecting career training programs and coordinate with other departments to promote center objectives
- Regularly assess and audit department for contractual compliance and quality of services to students; prepare audit and assessment reports
- Regularly inspect facility; maintain quality standards
- Train staff in effective classroom management, specific requirements in career training programs, and other subjects necessary for staff to effectively conduct programs
- Manage, recommend and participate in student counseling activities devoted to confrontations between staff and students and individual student problems
- Provide orientation to career training programs for new students and staff
- Evaluate and develop curricula, instructional materials, methods and techniques. Support the development of applied academic materials
- Manage class scheduling with the academic programs manager; balance class loads and appropriate assignment of students to courses in relation to their personal career development plans and goals
- Ensure training achievement records (TAR’s) are accurate and up to date and that CIS case notes are updated regularly for each student
- Coordinate with national training contractors the provision of career training by these organizations
- Ensure necessary membership of local and distant employers. Coordinate the activities of the industry council. Maintain person-to-person contact with employers to stay aware of labor needs in the area, and gain employer referrals from the members. Visit members' establishments to increase Job Corps awareness. Work closely with industry advisory council to modify programs as market needs change
- Oversee the center's CTST program including the development of the CTST plan
- Provide positive, quality customer services to students, staff and other center customers
- Participate in student employability programs and activities
- Support, promote, and enforce the Job Corps’ Zero Tolerance Policy
- Promote the development of Career Success Standards by modeling appropriate behaviors, mentoring students where necessary and monitoring both positive and negative behaviors through interventions
- Maintain accountability of staff, students and property; adhere to safety practices.
- Bachelor's degree preferred and at least two years supervisory experience
- Associate’s degree accepted with at least five years of supervisory experience
- Experience with youth, excellent written and verbal communications skills and computer proficiency required
- Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
