Position summary: A licensed practical nurse is responsible for providing nursing care and assistance for ill and/or injured residents.
Responsibilities include:
- Operate pill call, provide med pass, distribute medication and document as required by applicable policies and procedures in designated location(s)
- Under direction of the RN on duty and in accordance with approved standing orders, obtain initial health information and assist with treatment of inmates reporting to sick call
- Refer inmates to providers when appropriate
- Assist with provider line
- Perform emergency procedures as needed and call physician for treatment orders when necessary
- Keep equipment and work area clean; Prepare exam room and equipment
- Control medication, syringes and other medical supplies as required
- Closely monitor all potential catastrophic illnesses
- Maintain absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records; observe applicable HIPAA rules
Education and experience requirements:
- Graduation from a licensed practical nurse program
- An active licensure as a practical nurse in the state of Florida
- One (1) year of experience preferred, to include EKG, phlebotomy, injections, IV, casting and wound care
- A valid driver’s license in the state of Florida with an acceptable driving record is required, unless waived by management
