Join our team in corrections medicine and make a difference—provide essential healthcare to underserved populations in a unique environment. The Bluebonnet Detention Center in Anson, TX is looking for your compassionate care and expertise in our medical department! Our dedicated staff work to improve lives through education, healthcare, and a variety of support services.
What you’ll do: Assist with the safe and timely administration of authorized routine medications, documentation of medication administration, collection of objective clinical data, and other assigned patient-care activities within their training, demonstrated competency, and applicable scope in compliance with MTC Medical policies and applicable customer directives.
Essential Functions:
1. Receive, maintain, properly store, and accurately inventory medical supplies.
2. Administer and document medications as prescribed by the provider and within the scope of practice.
3. Report refusals, omitted doses, medication discrepancies, vomiting, adverse symptoms, or other concerns immediately to nursing.
4. Observe patients during assigned care activities and promptly report changes in condition, abnormal findings, complaints, injuries, or other concerns to the licensed nurse.
5. Collect routine specimens, including urine and stool specimens.
6. Assist licensed healthcare personnel with examinations, clinics, treatments, procedures, and other patient-care activities within the scope of practice.
7. Assist with intake processes by obtaining objective measurements and other non-assessment information as directed by licensed healthcare personnel.
8. Accurately document care provided and objective information personally obtained in the patient's health record in accordance with facility policy.
9. Prepare and maintain examination and treatment areas for patient care.
10. Clean and disinfect reusable equipment and patient-care areas according to infection-control policies.
11. Follow established infection-prevention practices, including standard precautions, hand hygiene, and appropriate use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
12. Ensure the medical supply cart, trauma bag, PPE room, and facility first aid kits are always fully and accurately stocked and clean.
13. Stock and organize medical supplies and notify appropriate personnel when supplies require replenishment.
14. Assist with maintaining sick call, chronic clinic, and specialty logs.
15. Perform 15-minute checks on identified residents and document encounters.
16. Record patient care and report changes in physical or mental status to the health care team.
It is expected that the incumbent shall perform other duties as assigned within his/her capabilities as determined by management.
Education and Experience Requirements:
High school diploma or GED required. Must be a Certified Medication Aide or Certified Medical Assistant with appropriate certification or permit. One year of experience in a hospital, clinic, or correctional setting is preferred. Demonstrated competency in word processing and computer data entry is preferred. Must maintain current CPR certification. A valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record is required, unless it is waved by management.
