What are the responsibilities and job description for the CMM Operator position at Managed Programs?
Job Purpose/Summary: The Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) Operator/ Quality Inspector is responsible for operating coordinate measuring equipment to inspect sourced and manufactured parts and verify compliance with engineering drawings, specifications, and customer requirements. This position will initially focus on CMM operation, inspection, and reporting with the opportunity to develop skills in CMM programming for qualified candidates.
Duties/Essential Job Functions:
1. Set up fixtures and properly position parts on the CMM for inspection
2. Operate existing CMM inspection programs and verify measurement results
3. Review CMM inspection reports and identify dimensions that are out of tolerance
4. Communicate inspection concerns to management and the Quality Department for review
5. Perform incoming, in-process and final inspections as required
6. Inspect parts using CMM equipment and other inspection tools such as calipers, micrometers and height gauges
7. Maintain accurate inspection records and documentation
8. Maintain a clean and organized CMM environment β including routine cleaning and care of the machine, probes, fixtures and inspection equipment
9. Assist with continuous improvement activities related to inspection processes
10.Develop CMM programming skills through training and hands-on experience as proficiency is demonstrated
11.Support quality processes and execution and maintenance of the quality system. 12.All other duties as assigned
Work Environment/Physical Demands
- CMM is operated in a standing position; must be able to stand for 8 hours
- Must wear proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when occasionally working in
manufacturing area
- Able to meet maximum recommended weight limit (RWL) lift defined by National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) of 50 pounds
Travel: No travel required
Required education and experience:
- Ability and willingness to learn CMM programming
- Familiarity with Kaizen and Lean Manufacturing techniques
- Experience with PC-DMIS or similar CMM software
Preferred education and experience:
- Experience operating a CMM or other precision inspection equipment preferred
