We are working with a client in the south Ft. Worth area who is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Lead Estimator to oversee the estimating function for electrical construction and lighting projects. This role will be responsible for managing the estimating process from initial bid review through proposal submission, ensuring accurate cost projections, competitive pricing, and successful project acquisition. This role will collaborate closely with business development, project management, operations, and executive leadership to support the company's growth objectives while maintaining profitability and operational excellence.. This is a direct hire position. No sponsorship is available. No B2C/C2C. Must live in the Ft. Worth area. No relocation available.
Key Responsibilities:
Estimating Leadership
- Lead and manage all phases of the estimating process for electrical construction, lighting, energy, and infrastructure projects.
- Develop accurate and comprehensive project cost estimates, including labor, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and indirect costs.
- Review project plans, specifications, contracts, and scope documents to identify risks, opportunities, and pricing strategies.
- Establish estimating standards, procedures, and best practices across the organization.
- Mentor and develop junior estimators and support staff.
Bid Management
- Evaluate bid opportunities and determine project viability and strategic fit.
- Coordinate bid schedules, assignments, and deliverables to ensure timely submissions.
- Conduct quantity takeoffs using industry-standard estimating software.
- Solicit and evaluate vendor and subcontractor quotations.
- Prepare detailed bid packages, proposals, budgets, and pricing summaries.
- Participate in bid reviews and executive approval meetings.
Strategic Planning & Analysis
- Analyze historical cost data and market trends to improve estimating accuracy.
- Identify value engineering opportunities and alternative solutions to enhance competitiveness.
- Assess project risks and develop contingency recommendations.
- Support contract negotiations by providing cost analysis and scope clarification.
Collaboration
- Work closely with project managers and operations teams during project handoff.
- Partner with business development and sales teams to support customer pursuits and presentations.
- Maintain strong relationships with vendors, subcontractors, customers, and industry partners.
- Participate in client meetings, pre-bid conferences, and project walkthroughs as needed.
Technology & Process Improvement
- Maintain estimating databases, labor units, and cost libraries.
- Leverage estimating and project management software to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives within the preconstruction process.
- Support implementation of new technologies and estimating tools.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Business, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
- 5 years of estimating experience within electrical construction, lighting, utility, infrastructure, or related industries.
- 3 years of leadership or supervisory experience.
- Strong understanding of electrical systems, construction methods, labor productivity, and project delivery models.
- Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel and cost analysis.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and analytical skills.
Preferred:
- Experience with design-build and EPC project delivery methods.
- Professional certifications such as Certified Professional Estimator (CPE), PMP, or equivalent.
- Knowledge of lighting, EV charging infrastructure, renewable energy, or energy services projects.
- Experience managing multi-million-dollar project estimates.
