Summary

The Health & Safety Director will manage and streamline all safety accident prevention and regulatory compliance practices into a cohesive and purpose-directed occupational safety program across multiple divisions. The Director will lead the MBUU strategy, vision, and culture for the organization in concert with management; planning, directing, and implementing organizational safety, environmental and health programs to ensure a safe, healthy, and accident-free work environment. This position will also oversee risk management and worker’s compensation programs. This will include ensuring timely processing of workers’ compensation claims.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops, organizes, implements, and evaluates corporate risk management programs and OHS programs and procedures.
  • Ensures compliance with related federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
  • Develop process/strategy for EHS programs and initiative.
  • Collaborate with functional team leads and work to establish business partnership.
  • Monitor effectiveness of EHS programs, training, and procedures within the organization
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and program consultation in the interpretation and application of safety programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Manages workers’ compensation claims.
  • Reviews, directs, and coordinates efforts of personnel and third-party administrators to resolve claims in the best interest of parties involved.
  • Analyze incident/accident data to identify specific trends and hazardous conditions that require an in-depth analysis and development and/or implementation of policy revision.
  • Develop and coordinate implementation of new and revised programs with business line EHS and operations management.
  • Participate with divisional leaders to develop safety initiatives.
  • Regularly communicate with business line management on EHS performance and initiatives
  • Analyze incident/accident data to identify specific trends and hazardous conditions that require an in-depth analysis and development and/or implementation of policy revision.
  • Participate in yearly planning activities for the department, determining the key performance indicators for safety managers to evaluate progress and determine goals for the company's safety management system.
  • Supervise the management of WC claims; coordinated return to work and/or light duty assignments with local management teams.
  • Interface with physicians, WC nurses, attorneys, and management staff as required to manage individual cases.
  • Oversee and ensure the efficient maintenance of records regarding workers' compensation claims and related information, data, and activities.
  • Develop, recommend, and implement workers' compensation policies and procedures; recommend and implement goals and objectives.
  • Participate in budget preparations and monitor expenditure; assist in determining the extent of liability; recommend and negotiate claim settlements.
  • Stay abreast of trends and innovations in the field of workers' compensation administration and keep current on legislative and regulatory issues at the State and Federal levels.
  • Identify, evaluate, and assess probability and severity of losses; develop, implement, and monitor cost containment strategies to prevent and minimize losses.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in health and safety, business administration, risk management, workers’ compensation, or closely related field.
  • Must be a persistent self-starter who can work effectively and lead others with minimum oversight.
  • Able to work effectively with all levels of the organization.
  • Requires practical knowledge in leading and managing processes, projects, and tactics within the Health and Safety field.
  • Five years of progressive experience in a corporate or multi-site management
  • Proficiency in the use of computers with knowledge of MS office products including Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  • Travel Required 50-75%
