Operations Manager
The Landscape Construction Operations Manager oversees the planning, execution, and financial performance of all commercial landscape construction projects. This role ensures that projects are delivered safely, efficiently, and profitably while maintaining quality standards and client satisfaction. Working closely with superintendents, project managers, and the estimating team, the Construction Operations Manager bridges preconstruction through project closeout — aligning operations, resources, and financial goals under the direction of the Branch Manager.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
  • Oversee all aspects of project execution from award through closeout, ensuring schedule, budget, and quality objectives are met.
  • Lead project kickoff, preconstruction meetings, and ongoing coordination with clients, designers, and internal teams.
  • Monitor project progress and proactively address schedule delays, cost variances, and scope changes.
  • Conduct site inspections to verify compliance with specifications, safety, and workmanship standards.
Financial Oversight & Job Costing
  • Manage project budgets and perform regular job costing reviews to ensure profitability and accuracy.
  • Collaborate with estimating and accounting teams to reconcile variances between bid and actual costs.
  • Approve and track change orders, labor, equipment, and material budgets within company software (e.g., Aspire).
  • Report project financial performance and forecasts to the Branch Manager and executive team.
Estimating & Preconstruction Support
  • Bridge communication between estimating and operations to ensure seamless project handoff and execution.
  • Review project scopes, specifications, and plans to validate accuracy of estimates and identify risks.
  • Perform post-project job cost analysis and provide feedback to estimators based on actual performance data.
  • Support the estimating team by reviewing bids for constructability, production rates, and material assumptions.
  • Track production data and trends in coordination with estimators to improve accuracy of future bids.
  • Collaborate on revenue forecasting and backlog tracking with the Branch Manager to align workload and profitability goals.
  • Develop and refine standardized estimating and project handoff procedures to enhance consistency and efficiency.
Team Leadership & Resource Management
  • Supervise and support superintendents, field staff, and project coordinators, promoting teamwork and accountability.
  • Conduct performance evaluations, provide coaching and feedback, and participate in hiring and disciplinary actions.
  • Forecast labor, equipment, and material needs in coordination with the Branch Manager and purchasing team.
  • Foster a culture of safety, professionalism, and continuous improvement across all job sites.
Client & Subcontractor Relations
Serve as the primary operational point of contact for clients, ensuring open communication and client satisfaction.
  • Manage subcontractor relationships, ensuring performance aligns with project scope, quality, and safety requirements.
  • Negotiate vendor agreements and monitor material deliveries to prevent delays.
  • Represent the company in meetings, presentations, and networking events as needed.
Reporting & Process Improvement
  • Maintain accurate project documentation, including RFIs, submittals, change orders, and financial reports.
  • Use project management tools (e.g., Autodesk, Aspire) to track and communicate progress.
  • Identify operational inefficiencies and implement solutions to improve productivity and profitability.
  • Support estimating and business development through lessons learned, cost data feedback, and market insights.
