Position Summary
MAK Group is a growing steel fabrication and erection platform. We need one person to own payroll, HR compliance, and onboarding across our three companies. This is a hands-on role. You will run the process, fix what is broken, and build the systems as we grow.
Key Responsibilities
- Process weekly payroll for hourly shop and field employees across multiple entities
- Manage overtime, multi-state withholding, garnishments, and payroll tax filings
- Own I-9 and E-Verify compliance, including tracking and reverifying expiring work authorizations
- Complete an I-9 audit of current files within the first 60 days
- Run onboarding and offboarding from offer letter through first-day paperwork
- Administer benefits enrollment, leave, and workers' compensation claims
- Maintain employee files, handbook policies, and required postings
- Coordinate with outside immigration counsel on visa-sponsored employees
- Serve as the first point of contact for employee HR and pay questions
- Support supervisors on hiring, discipline documentation, and terminations
Qualifications
- 4 years of HR and payroll experience, with at least 2 owning payroll end to end
- Experience in manufacturing, construction, or another hourly workforce environment
- Hands-on I-9 and E-Verify experience with foreign-born employees
- Working knowledge of FLSA, FMLA, and Indiana employment law
- Multi-entity payroll experience strongly preferred
- PHR, SHRM-CP, or FPC/CPP certification a plus
- Comfortable in a shop environment and with a lean team
Pay: $55,000.00 - $70,000.00 per year
