Major, Lindsey & Africa’s Interim Legal Talent group has an immediate need for an Interim Trademark Attorney.
Overview: MLA is seeking an experienced and proactive Trademark Attorney to be a senior resource on the client’s IP team, including mentoring younger IP lawyers, on a part-time basis. The candidates should have law firm experience managing all aspects of trademark portfolios for the firm’s clients from a variety of industries. It is critical that the winning candidate demonstrates a fierce client-focused mindset and has exceptional business acumen.
Responsibilities Include:
- Provide expert legal advice and counseling on trademarks, copyright, domain name, and related IP rights
- File, organize, and maintain domestic and international trademark applications and registrations
- Manage trademark prosecution and enforcement strategies globally, including conducting trademark searches and enforcement research
- Manage trademark portfolios, including renewals, oppositions, cancellations, and enforcement actions
- Conduct clearance reviews for titles, trademarks, character names, and other production-related assets
- Monitor and respond to potential infringements, including cease and desist letters and litigation support
- Review marketing, social media, and online content to ensure compliance with client brand guidelines
Qualifications Include:
- J.D. from an accredited law school; licensed to practice in the U.S. and be in good standing with a state bar
- 10 years of experience in trademark law, including prosecution, enforcement, and anti-counterfeiting at a top-tier law firm is required; in-house experience is a plus
- Demonstrated leadership and mentoring capabilities while managing an IP team
- Strong experience with trademark licensing and related commercial agreements (e.g., fashion, luxury brand consumer goods and services, technology, and entertainment)
- Strategic thinker with a client-focused mindset
- Familiarity with marketing and digital content compliance
- Excellent legal research, writing, and communication skills
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and project management abilities
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
