Major, Lindsey & Africa’s Interim Legal Talent group is seeking a Legal Services Manager on an interim-to-permanent basis.
Overview: We are seeking a Legal Services Manager to work in the global manufacturing and solutions industry.
Company: A global industrial manufacturer
Experience: 10 years of experience with Privacy and Trade Compliance
Location: Hybrid in Chicagoland, or Remote
Responsibilities Include:
The Legal Services Manager will focus equally on data privacy matters and U.S. customs and trade compliance matters. This position reports to the Deputy General Counsel, and the successful candidate will coordinate closely with members of the Law Department, but a proven ability to work independently and meet deadlines is essential.
Data Privacy
- Prepare materials for, and lead, bimonthly meetings with the cross-functional data Privacy Team. During these meetings, new and ongoing privacy matters are reviewed, typically related to IT tools that process personal data of the company’s customers and business partners, and tools that process personal data of employees and its Operating Companies
- Coordinate the process for requesting the completion of Data Protection Impact Assessments (DPIAs) with project leads for all new security and HR tools/systems that process personal data. Analyze DPIAs to determine data privacy requirements and discuss with the Privacy Team
- In consultation with the Legal Department, coordinate EU Works Council activities for HR and IT projects that require EU Works Council consultation or co-determination, including responding to Works Council/Data Protection Officer questions
- Prepare EU Standard Contractual Clauses (SCCs) and obtain signatures as needed for intragroup transfers of employee data
- Review new global privacy regulatory developments and discuss with the Privacy Team as needed
Global Customs and Trade Compliance
- Act as internal liaison for requests from OpCo trade compliance personnel regarding systems access, create reports within PowerBI with information extracted from the ACE portal and facilitate internal review and auditing of entries
- Update training materials and provide training for new users, manage user access requests, and create custom reports at the request of OpCos
- In consultation with relevant members of the Law Department, consult on OpCo “Know Your Customer” (KYC) documentation from time to time, and assist in training new OpCo personnel in KYC functions and requirements.
- Interface with trade compliance tool suppliers to make sure that tools are used correctly and that updates are available from the vendor.
Qualifications Include:
- Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 10 years’ professional experience (graduate degrees, legal or non, are a plus)
- Prior experience with privacy and U.S. customs and trade compliance, or closely related experience in a public or private company (exposure to customs brokerage practices is a plus)
- Demonstrated expertise with ACE Portal, PowerBI, and Descartes Visual Compliance (or a similar global screening compliance tool)
