Responsibilities
- Assist healthcare providers with patient intake, including collecting medical histories and documenting symptoms accurately.
- Measure vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and respiration rates to ensure thorough patient assessments.
- Prepare patients for examinations or procedures by explaining processes and ensuring comfort.
- Support clinical procedures such as administering medications, drawing X-rays, or assisting with minor surgical interventions in outpatient or inpatient settings.
- Maintain accurate electronic health records (EHR systems), including ICD coding for diagnoses and documenting patient interactions comprehensively.
- Conduct basic life support (BLS) procedures when necessary and respond effectively in emergency situations within hospital or urgent care environments.
- Manage medical administrative support tasks such as appointment scheduling, insurance verification, and patient correspondence to streamline clinic operations.
- Support specialized units like PICU (Pediatric Intensive Care Unit), Geriatrics clinics, or Level I/II trauma centers by applying relevant physiology knowledge and hospital experience to deliver optimal patient care.
Skills
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and pharmacology relevant to diverse clinical settings.
- Experience working in dermatology, hospital medicine, urgent care, or emergency medicine environments with familiarity in inpatient and outpatient procedures.
- Proficiency with EHR systems and ICD coding to ensure precise documentation of patient encounters.
- Ability to perform clinical tasks such as medication administration, vital signs collection, X-ray assistance, and basic life support (BLS).
- Excellent patient service skills with a compassionate approach to diverse populations including geriatrics and pediatric patients in PICU or medical-surgical units.
- Knowledge of hospital experience requirements for Level I trauma centers or Level II trauma centers to effectively support emergency responses.
- Capable of handling intake assessments efficiently while maintaining high standards of patient confidentiality and safety.
