Grounds Mechanic I

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

To maintain and make needed repairs on all grounds department equipment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION

• High School diploma or G.E.D. preferred.
• Current valid Texas Driver’s license with an acceptable driving record as determined by the Texas school Bus Driver’s requirements.
• Minimum of 6 years experience in lawn maintenance, small engine repair, and diesel engine repair.
• Must have own mechanic tools.

SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

• Able to do repairs on all types of lawn equipment. (Ex: linetrimmers, blowers, edgers, ZTR’s, walk behind mowers, etc…)
• Excellent trouble shooting skills with gasoline small engines and diesel engines.
• Experience in hydraulics, clutches, injectors, and tractor implements.
• Be able procure parts for various models and makes of equipment.
• Able to communicate effectively with Foreman and Supervisor 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:                      

261 days 

SALARY/PAYGRADE:

$22.66/HS-9

Salary (based on verifiable job-related experience) as set by the Board of Trustees for the school year

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

1. Perform scheduled preventative maintenance on all equipment.
2. Make needed repairs to all tractors and lawn equipment.
3. Make quick turn around on all work orders.
4. Make repairs on all diesel equipment.
5. Make repairs on all tractor implements.
6. Keep accurate and organized inventory of parts for all equipment.
7. Keep Foreman and Supervisor advised on condition of equipment.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

• Must be able to lift and carry 75 pounds.
• Be available to work different schedules or shifts to accomplish tasks.
• Be available for after hour demands, subject to 24-hour responsibility.
• Maintain emotional control under stress.
• Ability to work alone.
• Ability to keep information confidential.
