| POSITION SUMMARY |
- Maintains shrubs, flower beds, and lawns.
- Operates automotive and landscaping equipment in a safe and effective manner.
- Assists with carpentry and repair of landscaping equipment.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Assistor Director of Facilities.

| ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS |
- Perform manual labor work in the repair, maintenance and care of school grounds and related structures and equipment.
- Follow weekly and daily schedule of tasks to include, grass cutting, weed eating, shrubbery trimming and spreading of mulch.
- Uses equipment provided by LCS in an appropriate and safe manor: tractors, commercial riding and push mowers, weed trimmers, lawn and bed edges, chain saws and various hand tools in the performance of maintenance responsibilities.
- Drive and handle various light and medium weight trucks with trailers to: transport equipment, plow snow, spread salt and deliver bulk items various school locations.
- Perform routine repairs, maintenance and installation of school division playgrounds.
- Loads and unloads trucks, making deliveries to schools and other designated locations and disposes of surplus property and equipment.
- Removes debris, trash, surplus items and trash from school grounds.
- Work long or altered shifts in the performance of snow removal, LCS sponsored functions and or school or local emergencies.
- Perform basic routine maintenance and repairs to related grounds equipment.
- Must be able to work with minimum supervision and in a cooperative manner with: coworkers, supervisors, school administration and staff.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

| EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE |
- High school diploma or equivalent
- One year of related grounds maintenance work experience.
|
| KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES |

Must be generally familiar and have knowledge of techniques and procedures used in the care of lawns, shrubs and trees.

Must be familiar with and be able to handle and use typical commercial lawn care equipment.

Must have a valid Virginia motor vehicle operator’s license with a satisfactory driving record.

A commitment to students and improving the facilities of Lynchburg City Schools.

Designated as Essential Personnel. Employees must report to assigned job site during emergency situations including weather and building emergencies.

| SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY |
- Follow directions from Grounds Foreman, Grounds Lead and Assistant Director of Facilities.

| TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS |

Daily travel between schools, LCS buildings and local areas, required.

Minimal travel outside of the City of Lynchburg, required.

| WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS |
|
Must be able to work outdoors in a variety of temperatures and weather conditions.
Must have sufficient strength and ability to manually lift, move, load and unload equipment weighing up to 75 pounds.
