Summary

The Human Resources Coordinator supports the overall success of the community by managing daytoday HR operations, including recruitment, onboarding, employee relations, and compliance. This role ensures policies and practices align with federal, state, and local regulations while fostering a positive and respectful workplace culture. Success in this position is measured by the timely and accurate processing of HR activities, effective resolution of employee concerns, and the development of strong relationships across all levels of staff. As a key member of the leadership team, the HR Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting staff engagement, retention, and the delivery of quality care to residents.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Develop and implement recruitment, selection, and training plans to ensure competent staffing.

Review applications, check references, arrange interviews, conduct background checks, and verify work eligibility per regulations.

Conduct new hire orientations, coordinate onboarding documentation, and communicate policies, payroll procedures, and expectations.

Maintain and update job descriptions, performance evaluations, and personnel files in compliance with applicable laws.

Ensure adherence to hiring, termination, and disciplinary procedures; investigate employee complaints and recommend corrective action.

Provide guidance to managers on policies, procedures, and employment laws.

Process weekly payroll accurately; monitor time and attendance; resolve time clock and scheduling issues.

Administer employee benefits; provide training and communicate enrollment deadlines.

Prepare and submit required forms, reports, and recommendations to the Administrator while maintaining confidentiality.

Promote teamwork, mutual respect, and a positive work environment.

Lead employee recognition activities and staff appreciation events.

Support compliance efforts and participate in survey plans of correction.

Promote safe work practices; participate in safety and emergency drills.

Treat all residents with dignity and respect, upholding their rights at all times.

Complete all required training and professional development.

Participate in Manager On Duty (MOD) rotation as assigned.

Education and Experience

Minimum of 1 year of experience in employee relations or related HR role, preferably in a nursing home or healthcare setting.

Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to communicate with tact and diplomacy.

Proven ability to influence others regarding policies, practices, and procedures.

Strong commitment to ethical practices, maintaining honesty, fairness, and integrity.

Solid understanding of employment laws and compliance requirements.

Skilled in handling sensitive and confidential information with discretion.

Proficient in Microsoft Office; experience with case management systems preferred.

Bilingual skills preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.

Strong knowledge of administrative practices and procedures, including employment law, wage and hour rules, labor relations, OSHA, and privacy regulations.

Skilled in acting as a liaison between staff and management while fostering teamwork.

Ability to make independent decisions and resolve issues tactfully and diplomatically.

Demonstrates patience, professionalism, and respect when dealing with staff, residents, families, visitors, and outside agencies.

Maintains a commitment to ethical practices, fairness, and confidentiality.

Communicates effectively with all levels of staff, including medical and nursing teams.

Able to respond to urgent or emergency situations as needed.

Work Environment / Physical Demands

This position operates primarily in an office setting within the facility but requires regular movement throughout resident care areas. The role involves periods of sitting, standing, walking, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and occasional overhead lifting. Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 25 pounds unassisted. May be exposed to infectious waste, diseases, and conditions including AIDS, Hepatitis B, Coronavirus, and Tuberculosis, as well as dust, cleaning chemicals, and other air contaminants. May also encounter residents, family members, or visitors who are upset or emotional. Must meet facility health requirements, be able to assist with resident evacuation in emergencies, and work beyond normal hours, including weekends, holidays, and during emergencies as needed.
