What are the responsibilities and job description for the Log Scaler position at Maine Woods Company?
Essential duties in this existing vacant position include, but are not limited to:
· Scale hardwood logs to determine board-foot volume using accepted log rules (International).
· Inspect logs for grade, species, length, diameter, and visible defects.
· Accurately record log measurements, grades, and volumes in scaling tickets or electronic systems.
· Identify and classify hardwood species and quality levels.
· Maintain yard maintenance and plowing duties.
· Work cooperatively with other employees in a team-oriented environment
· Follow haz-com and all other safety procedures
· Ability to use a chainsaw
· Willingness to support other areas of the department, as needed
· Perform miscellaneous duties as necessary
· Follow safe work practices
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
· Must have hand and eye coordination
· High school diploma or equivalent
· Must have a valid driver’s license
· Must have a strong attention to detail
· Must be able to prioritize duties and maintain schedule requirements
· Must be able to operate computer/computer systems
· Demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
· Willingness to work overtime as needed
· Ability to work in hot and cold temperatures
· Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time
· Ability to work in a rapid paced environment and maintain quality standards
· Must adhere to all company safety policies and procedures
Physical Demands:
· Ability to stand or sit for long periods of time
· Ability to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, twist, push, pull, reach overhead, climb a ladder, walk and squat
· Must be able to work in varying temperatures
· Ability to frequently move/handle up to 50 lbs.
· Ability to walk on uneven surfaces
· Must have manual dexterity, visual acuity and depth perception
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $20.00 - $24.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 45 per week
