Maine School Administrative District No. 33 serves students in grades PreK-12 in St. Agatha, ME, home of the Long Lake Fishing Derby, one of the largest fishing derby's in the state!. The district has two (2) schools under one roof, Wisdom Middle/High School and Dr. Levesque Elementary School, a 2018 National Blue Ribbon School. The district is also home to the St. John Valley Technology Center, serving students from MSAD33, MSAD27, and the Madawaska School Department.

Job Summary: Provide instructional and behavioral support to students under the supervision of a certified teacher. This role involves assisting with classroom management, implementing educational plans, and supporting students with individualized needs in various educational settings.

Qualifications:

Ed Tech Level I:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent

Ed Tech Level II:

  • Completion of at least 2 years of post-secondary education or a combination equivalent to 60 hours of approved study in an educationally related field.

Ed Tech Level III (Preferred):

  • Completion of at least 3 years of post-secondary education or a combination equivalent to 90 hours of approved study in an educationally related field.
  • Have Knowledge of the learning process, primarily in math and reading instruction.

Standard across levels:

  • Maine Criminal History Record Check (CHRC) required.
  • Educational Technician Certification
  • Strong Communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and staff
  • Willingness to complete any required training or certification programs
  • Must be able to work with diverse learners, including students with special needs and juggle multiple tasks.
  • Ability to help maintain a positive and structured learning environment.
  • Maintains student privacy and upholds ethical standards

Performance Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, plan for, and instruct small groups of students in settings removed from the classroom.
  • Support students with special needs by following individualized education plans (IEPs) or behavioral plans.
  • Monitor student behavior and assist in maintaining a positive classroom environment.
  • Assist in data collection and documentation of student progress.
  • Supervise students in various settings, including classrooms, hallways, recess, and lunch areas.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student records and information.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervising teacher or administrator.

  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple student's needs simultaneously.
  • Requires patience, emotional resilience, and adaptability to support students with diverse learning and behavioral challenges.
  • Must maintain a calm and professional demeanor in potentially stressful situations, including student outbursts or conflicts.
  • Ability to follow instructions from teachers and administrators while also making quick decisions in the moment.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to assist students with academic and behavioral difficulties.
  • Must handle confidential student information with discretion and professionalism.

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and kneeling to assist students.
  • May require lifting or moving materials, books, or equipment (typically under 25 lbs).
  • Occasional need to physically assist students with mobility challenges or support students in crisis situations.
  • Must have the stamina to engage with students for extended periods during the school day.

Environmental Conditions:

  • Most work is performed inside the classroom or other areas in the school building.
  • May be required to work outdoors for recess, bus duty, or physical education support, subject to varying weather conditions.
