REPORTS TO: Assistant Director of Student Life

 

 

 

BENEFITS: Non-benefited position. On campus housing in a single with a shared bathroom on the South Portland campus OR a single with a private bathroom on the Brunswick campus and a meal plan is provided.

 

 

 

POSITION SUMMARY: Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) is seeking an enthusiastic and student-focused Student Engagement Coordinator to join the Student Life team. This position plays an important role in supporting the College's student engagement goals by supporting the success of Student Life initiatives and programming, primarily with the office of Student Engagement. Primary responsibilities include assisting with student clubs and organizations, student government, the Campus Activities Team, campus engagement, and traditional events.

 

The ideal candidate is an engaging communicator who enjoys assisting student leaders, building relationships, and creating community development opportunities.

 

The contracted payment limit is $26,000 for the length of the contract. The contract will last until June 30th, 2027 with the possibility of renewal. 

 

 

 

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Support the development, marketing and implementation of campus events and student engagement opportunities on the South Portland campus and occasionally the Midcoast campus.
  • Assist with the development, marketing, and implementation of off campus events and trips, including providing transportation, serving as a chaperone, and driving college vehicles. 
  • Develop relationships with students and encourage student participation and involvement in activities, events, clubs and organizations, leadership programs, leadership roles, student employee roles, service projects, etc.
  • Advise and support the success of student groups such as clubs, organizations, the Campus Activities Team, the Student Senate, etc.
  • Design and distribute marketing both in print and on social media (Student Engagement newsletter, email, Facebook, Instagram, CampusGroups, print marketing, etc.).
  • Maintain Student Life’s presence, events, and assessment on the MCCS App and social media accounts.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Assistant Director of Student Life and Associate Dean of Students. 

 

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 30 college credits completed.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be eligible to provide student transportation in college vehicles. 
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong presentation and public speaking abilities.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively as part of a collaborative team.

 

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Earned College Degree
  • Experience in college student leadership, planning events, or advising students.
  • Preference is given to students currently enrolled in a related degree program or who plan to pursue a career in higher education.  
  • Experience working with students from diverse educational, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
