Title: KVCC EMS Lab Assistants for AEMT and Paramedic Courses (Contracted Hourly)
Bargaining Unit/Salary Level: $45.00 per hour.
Responsibilities: The lab assistant for the EMS licensure courses often facilitates the link between didactic lectures and psychomotor skills/scenarios. Lab assistants should be familiar with current education standards and objectives, as well as industry best practices and standards for the license-level being taught.
• Assist in the design and set-up of skill stations and scenarios using measurable objectives
• Assist in creating realistic learning situations to enhance student learning
• Assist the lead instructor in assuring skill competency of EMS students
• Assist in the documentation of student progress and performance during the course
• Provide constructive feedback to students
• Provide educational debriefing sessions at the completion of the exercise as needed
• Assist in maintaining a classroom/lab environment that is conducive to effective learning, mutual respect, and professionalism
• Serves as a professional role model for students
• Encourages students to set and maintain high standards with the classroom, lab, and ultimately their professional careers
• Ability to work independently and under pressure
• Ability to translate complex problems and concepts in training
• Assist lead instructor in keeping an accurate record of student attendance and grades as needed
• Uses discretion and maintains confidentiality regarding student information
• Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities
• Willingness to follow the college’s policies and procedures
• Understands the expectations of the NREMT and their testing procedures
Minimum Qualifications:
- Licensed and in good standing at the level of the EMS course being taught or appropriate equivalent
- Prior EMS educational experience in skill and scenario instruction preferred
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Creative and energetic
- Be able to work with students that have a diverse range of backgrounds, abilities, and ages
- 1-year experience at the license-level being taught or appropriate equivalent
