STARTING SALARY RANGE: $52,610 - $62,819

 

 

DEPARTMENT: Fire Science

 

 

 

REPORTS TO: Department Chair

POSITION SUMMARY:

SMCC is seeking a full-time faculty member in fire science to teach introductory and advanced level courses beginning immediately or January 2027.  Candidates should be well versed in the response, prevention, leadership and administrative aspects of fire, EMS and risk management fields. Responsibilities include teaching an average of five courses per semester, advising students in workforce and academic programs, developing and adapting curricula, participating in department/college committees and activities, and other professional duties related to the position. Appointment will begin at the instructor level.

 

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Baccalaureate degree fire, EMS, risk management or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Five years of progressive fire/EMS/risk management experience
  • Five years of related instructional experience
  • Fire Instructor I

 

 

 

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Community college teaching experience
  • Fire instructor II and fire officer experience/certification
  • EMS License and EMS Instructor/Coordinator
  • Curriculum design/development experience
  • Master’s degree in a related field
  • Leadership and/or administrative experience in fire, EMS or related field
  • Online Learning Management Systems and/or Microsoft Office proficiency
