What are the responsibilities and job description for the Wellness Floor Attendant position at Mahaska County YMCA?
The Wellness Floor Attendant is primarily responsible for ensuring the safety of YMCA members utilizing the strength and cardiorespiratory areas. The Wellness Floor Attendant will be instrumental in the overall shift toward an exercise support emphasis. The Wellness Floor Attendant will insure proper use of the equipment while maintaining a safe and motivating environment.
Must be at least 16 years of age and have knowledge of basic exercise science, and biomechanics. Prior strength/conditioning experience is preferred. A basic understanding of computer hardware and software is expected. In addition, the position expects the intern to obtain current CPR, First Aid, Wellness Center at the Y, and Risk Management training 101 (Authored by Redwoods). Additional training preferred includes appropriate strength training certification, wellness or health coaching.
PRINCIPLE RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Promote a healthy lifestyle, and be an enthusiastic role model.
2. Understand, demonstrate, and promote the Mission and Cause of the YMCA in programs and membership.
3. Follow strength-training guidelines, complying with National YMCA guidelines.
4. Introduce yourself and make efforts to recognize members on subsequent visits.
5. Develop and maintain relationships with members that promote building small communities.
6. Arrive for shift on time and dressed appropriately following the Mahaska County YMCA dress code.
7. Work in cooperation with other staff to insure smooth operation of the Wellness Centers, and ensure excellent customer service.
8. Perform member feedback by tracking individual usage of the system and take appropriate action to ensure member retention and participation, including but not limited to phone calls, follow up appointments, and cards when appropriate.
9. Respond to member’s messages and requests for reviews in a timely manner.
10. Clean all wellness areas every shift. Remove soiled laundry, pick up weights, and make areas orderly.
11. Attend department trainings as required.
12. Perform other duties as they apply to the strength and conditioning programs at the YMCA.
13. Monitor participation by under-aged youths to ensure appropriate and responsible use of the equipment.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
1. Visually inspect the strength and cardiorespiratory areas for equipment in need of repair, report problems to the membership & Marketing Director.
2. Lead orientation and follow up sessions catering to a member’s fitness goals. Must be able to physically demonstrate exercises.
3. Teach classes, substitute shifts, and demonstrate exercises as needed in the Wellness Department.
4. Ability to be in a crouching position and regularly twist body at the waist, shoulders or legs.
5. Ability to stand for extended periods of time and work in a kneeling position.
6. Assist in cleaning and maintaining the equipment.
7. Lift and transport weight up to 45 pounds.
8. Interpret association goals, objectives, and policies to the community and membership.
9. Physically and mentally able to respond to emergencies and administer CPR and First Aid effectively.
