What are the responsibilities and job description for the Clerk, Patient Financial Services position at Magruder Hospital?
We are seeking a detail-oriented Clerk to support daily financial operations, including assembling deposits, processing payments, and maintaining accurate documentation. This role ensures timely and precise handling of financial transactions while supporting compliance and organizational standards. As part of our Finance team, you will help maintain smooth workflows and uphold high levels of accuracy and confidentiality.
What You’ll Do
Payment Processing & Reconciliation
- Assemble hospital deposits and process live checks and spreadsheets with accuracy
- Process insurance credit card payments for the hospital and medical group
- Retrieve and deliver internal and external mail to support daily operations
- Post payments with precision to ensure correct account allocation
Documentation & Record Management
- File remittance advices, adjustment sheets, refunds, and correspondence via scanning system
- Maintain organized financial records to support audits and compliance
- Assist with cashier window coverage when needed
Cross-Functional Collaboration / Operations
- Support compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
- Maintain confidentiality of patient, customer, and hospital information in accordance with HIPAA
- Collaborate with internal departments to ensure accurate payment posting and workflow efficiency
Systems & Administration
- Utilize computer systems, spreadsheets, and office equipment to complete daily tasks
- Maintain working knowledge of accounting procedures and departmental operations

Required
- High School Diploma or GED equivalent
- Strong typing, data entry, math, and analytical skills
- Excellent customer service, organization, and problem-solving abilities
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and standard office equipment
- Ability to post payments accurately and maintain confidentiality
- Knowledge of insurance, account follow-up, and basic accounting procedures
- Ability to communicate professionally and manage frequent interruptions
- Minimum 1 year of experience in a customer service setting
Preferred
- Previous experience in a hospital or physician office setting
- Accounting background or related financial experience
- Familiarity with healthcare payment posting or remittance processing
