Job Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Operating Room Registered Nurse to join our dynamic surgical team. The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in perioperative nursing, including OR procedures, aseptic techniques, and patient care management. This role involves providing exceptional nursing care before, during, and after surgical procedures in a fast-paced ambulatory surgery center environment. The RN will be responsible for ensuring patient safety, maintaining sterile environments, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver optimal surgical outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Prepare operating rooms by ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are sterile and ready for procedures.
- Assist surgeons and anesthesiologists during surgeries by providing appropriate instruments and support.
- Monitor patient vital signs and assess patient condition throughout the perioperative period using advanced EMR/EHR systems such as Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth.
- Administer medications including IV infusions, injections, and sedation while adhering to aseptic techniques and HIPAA regulations.
- Perform patient assessments pre- and post-operation, including vital signs, physical examinations, and documentation of medical records.
- Manage airway control, ventilator support, and other critical care interventions as needed during complex surgeries such as trauma or cardiac catheterization procedures.
- Support infection control protocols to prevent surgical site infections and ensure compliance with CDC standards.
- Provide specialized care for patients with complex needs such as ICU patients, trauma cases, or those requiring hospice & palliative medicine services.
- Educate patients and families about postoperative care plans including discharge instructions and medication management.
- Maintain a sterile environment through proper aseptic techniques during all procedures like suturing, catheterization, ostomy care, or dermal filler treatments.
Requirements
- Valid RN license with current registration in the state of practice.
- Extensive OR experience with proficiency in sterile processing and aseptic technique.
- Demonstrated expertise in various specialties such as ophthalmology, cardiology (including cardiac catheterization), trauma medicine (Level I & II Trauma Center experience), ICU or PICU experience preferred.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems including Epic, Cerner, or Athenahealth for accurate medical documentation.
- Ability to perform complex procedures such as IV insertion/infusion, phlebotomy, tube feeding management, ventilator support, and specimen collection/processing.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy & physiology relevant to surgical care.
- Strong assessment skills for patient evaluation during triage or acute pain management scenarios.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics (neonatal ventilator), geriatrics (memory/dementia care), or individuals with disabilities (developmental disabilities).
- Ability to work in high-pressure environments such as emergency rooms or urgent care settings while maintaining professionalism and compassion.
- Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) required; additional certifications like ACLS or PALS are advantageous.
