POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Assistant Supervisor works with all areas of the discovery center to support the Discovery Guide Supervisor and others with carrying out our mission. He/she also acts as the manager on duty (MOD) to manage the floors when the Discovery Guide Supervisor is absent (mainly Fridays and Saturdays). Will be responsible for admission sales, greeting visitors, and will provide assistance as needed to the other Discovery Guides on the floor. Will also schedule and supervise private events including birthday parties.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES: General
- Live out MCDC Mission, Vision, and Core Values
- Ensure security, accuracy, integrity, and confidentiality of MCDC data and information
- Other duties as assigned
Events
- Point of contact for scheduling venue rentals (including birthday parties)
- Host and on-site contact for venue rentals
- Coordinate additional staffing needs as needed for venue rentals
- Collaborate with maintenance staff on venue rental set up and tear down
- Coordinate with key stakeholders for internal events such as fundraising events with regards to staffing and scheduling
Assistant Supervisor
- Oversee visitor feedback and resolve complaints to ensure a positive guest experience
- Monitor security cameras
- Assist facilities staff in providing a safe and clean environment
- Ensure compliance with MCDC safety procedures in collaboration with the Management Team
- Enforce opening and closing procedures, including cash processing
- Oversee subordinates’ schedules, lunch breaks, floor rotations, etc.
- Oversee the front desk services and admission process, including welcoming customers, answering phones, gift shop sales, maintaining cash drawer, etc.
- Maintain and reconcile cash throughout the shift
- Direct museum patrons and venue rental guests as needed
- Act as host for birthday parties. Including set up & tear down.
- Oversee & assist cleaning procedures for Discovery Guides and Cashiers
- Monitor visitor behavior in the Discovery Center, identifying and addressing safety concerns to maintain a secure and enjoyable environment
- Work collaboratively with the Discovery Guide Supervisor to welcome and provide training for volunteers.
- Communicate with the Discovery Guide Supervisor regularly
HOURS:
Part Time 25-35 hours a week. Fridays & Saturdays required. May fill in as needed, with notice. Including varying hours to work events at the Discovery Center.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS: Education/License/Certification Requirements
- High School Diploma or GED
Experience Requirements and Skills
- Works well with families and children.
- Strong people skills required.
- Strong communication skills.
- Supervisory experience preferred.
- Good organizational skills - scheduling, meeting deadlines, time management.
- Strong collaborative and team building skills.
- Technology and computer software skills required.
- Must be able to lift, sit, stand, carry, pull, climb and push objects.
- Able to stand/walk for extended periods of time.
