What are the responsibilities and job description for the President of Marketing position at Magenta Light Studios?
We are seeking a seasoned, strategic, and deeply hands on President of Marketing to oversee all marketing activities from greenlight through theatrical, streaming, and ancillary release. This is a leadership role reporting directly to the CEO. You will set the vision for how our films reach audiences, oversee every marketing channel, and serve as a true creative partner to our filmmakers.
The ideal candidate understands the realities of the independent film business, which cannot rely on massive marketing budgets to compensate for poor planning, inefficient spending, or unfocused campaigns. Success requires resourcefulness, discipline, and the ability to maximize every dollar invested.
While this role oversees all aspects of film marketing, a strong command of paid media strategy is essential. We are looking for someone who understands audience identification, platform selection, budget allocation, spend pacing, attribution, optimization, and performance analysis at an expert level. The right candidate knows how to build campaigns, while constantly adapting based on real time performance data.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Strategic Marketing Leadership
- Develop and execute end to end marketing strategies across the entire film lifecycle.
- Establish audience positioning, campaign architecture, messaging strategy, and release plans for each title.
- Serve as the primary marketing partner to filmmakers, producers, talent, and distribution partners.
- Build scalable marketing processes and infrastructure to support the company’s growth.
Paid Media Strategy & Performance Marketing
- Develop paid media strategy, audience targeting frameworks, and channel allocation plans across all marketing campaigns.
- Oversee campaign execution, budget management, optimization, and performance reporting across digital, social, search, programmatic, out of home, and traditional channels.
- Develop testing frameworks, audience segmentation strategies, attribution models, and optimization processes to maximize return on marketing investment.
- Evaluate campaign performance in real time and make budget reallocation decisions based on data.
- Ensure every marketing dollar is deployed thoughtfully with discipline, efficiency, and accountability.
Campaign Management & Creative Development
- Lead campaign development from initial positioning through theatrical, streaming, television, and ancillary release windows, ensuring a cohesive marketing strategy throughout the entire lifecycle of each title.
- Oversee creative from trailers, key art, digital creative, social assets, promotional materials, and campaign messaging.
- Ensure consistency of brand voice and campaign cohesion across all audience touchpoints.
- Partner with publicity teams to align earned, owned, and paid media strategies.
Digital, Social & Audience Growth
- Lead strategy across owned digital channels, social platforms, websites, CRM initiatives, and audience development efforts.
- Oversee influencer, creator, and partnership marketing programs.
- Identify emerging platforms, technologies, and marketing opportunities that can create competitive advantages.
Budgeting, Analytics & Team Leadership
- Own marketing budgets across the slate and maintain accountability for spend efficiency and campaign effectiveness.
- Develop marketing forecasts, reporting frameworks, and executive dashboards.
- Build, lead, and mentor a high performance marketing team.
- Manage agencies, vendors, consultants, and external partners with clearly defined deliverables and performance expectations.
- Lead agency selection, contract negotiations, and RFP processes.
QUALIFICATIONS
- 10 years of progressive film, television, entertainment, or media marketing experience.
- Demonstrated success leading theatrical, VOD, streaming, or multi window release campaigns.
- Deep expertise in paid media strategy, audience targeting, attribution, analytics, and campaign optimization.
- Hands on experience developing and managing media plans, not simply overseeing agencies.
- Strong understanding of Meta, YouTube, TikTok, Google Ads, programmatic advertising, SEM, and audience analytics platforms.
- Experience working directly with filmmakers, producers, talent, and creative teams.
- Proven ability to manage marketing budgets under significant resource constraints.
- Strong analytical, communication, leadership, and presentation skills.
The ideal candidate understands that independent film marketing requires a fundamentally different mindset than studio marketing. You know how to do more with less. You understand that disciplined audience targeting, smart media allocation, strong creative, and relentless optimization often outperform significantly larger budgets. You are equally comfortable discussing positioning strategy with a filmmaker, reviewing trailer creative with an agency, negotiating media buys, and analyzing campaign performance data. You are entrepreneurial, accountable, resourceful, and energized by building systems, teams, and campaigns from the ground up.
If you believe you possess the experience, mindset, and qualifications outlined above, we welcome your application.
