POSITION SUMMARY

The Behavioral Health Group Facilitator provides group counseling using evidence-based modalities within a psychiatric residential setting. Creates a supportive and therapeutic milieu environment for teenagers receiving co-occurring treatment by working collaboratively with clinical, medical, and program staff.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Experience helping adolescents with emotional, behavioral, and substance use problems, preferably in a residential treatment or hospital setting.
• Demonstrated ability to work with a diverse population. Must have a commitment to providing culturally responsive care to individuals and communities who are disproportionately impacted by mental health and substance use concerns.
• Must demonstrate an ability to navigate workplace conflicts and differences using non-violent, direct, and respectful communication.

PREFERED QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in a behavioral health related field.
• Experience facilitating groups in person in a residential or inpatient setting.
• Working knowledge of Evidence-based curriculum for group therapy.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Responsible for facilitating group activities for youth receiving co-occurring services in a psychiatric residential level of care.
• Responsible for working as part of the milieu staff to oversee the safe and therapeutic focus for the adolescents in the program.
• Responsible for utilizing a trauma informed and collaborative problem-solving approach when working with the adolescents in the program.
• Responsible for appropriate clinical documentation of all group and milieu activities of the adolescents throughout the treatment day.
• Participate in treatment team meetings as available. Adhere to all state supervision requirements.
• Comply with all required continuing education requirements per professional certification requirements.
• Consistently demonstrates appropriate, therapeutic boundaries through modeled behavior, appropriate and relevant group topics
• Consistently demonstrates how to effectively deal with challenges in groups (i.e. group conflict and disruptive behavior)
• Always follows policy and procedure (e.g., client rights standards, confidentiality, infection control standards, environment of care standards, emergency procedures, etc.) and observes legal and ethical norms.
• Is committed to following legal and ethical norms and expectations as outlined by State law, Federal law, Joint Commission, NAADAC, MHACBO and OSHA.
• Follows reporting procedures to ensure client and staff safety.
• Responsible for appropriate documentation of all group and milieu activities of the adolescents throughout the treatment day.
• Completes group notes according to policy in a timely manner using precise, clinical language.
• Responsible for safe tracking and storage of program supplies.
• Assists in orientation and training of new personnel.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES

• Ability to communicate effectively in English using clinical language, both orally and in writing.
• Ability to apply a culturally appropriate and humble lens to client and colleague relationships or conflict in order to create a working environment that is equitable and inclusive.
• Skill in telephone etiquette, voice mail, and email procedures.
• Working knowledge of the age-specific, diagnostic-specific, and cultural-specific needs of the population served.
• Working knowledge of clients’ rights, abuse reporting laws, and crisis intervention/de-escalation techniques.
• Working knowledge of trauma-informed and strength-based treatment approaches.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality in accordance with applicable laws (e.g. HIPAA, 42 CFR Pt. 2)
• Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.

• Ability to exercise self-control in potentially provoking situations such as being verbally or physically confronted in a threatening or aggressive manner
• Ability to stand, sit, or walk for up to six continuous hours
• Ability to communicate verbally, read written materials, and to discern a variety of odors
• Ability to hear/perceive the nature of sound with no less than 40 dB loss @ Hz, 1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz with or without correction
• Ability to perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers
• Ability to occasionally carry or lift program materials of up to 15 pounds. (i.e., group supplies, clients’ belongings, etc.)
• Ability to see with a minimum standard of visual acuity, with or without correction, that will enable people in the role to complete administrative and clerical tasks and visually observe clients on the unit and in therapeutic activities.
• Ability to occasionally assist in the physical intervention of clients, requiring bending, stooping, twisting, grasping and lifting of up to 65 pounds from a squat.
• Ability to follow policies, procedures, and program manuals.
• Ability to appropriately handle hazardous/infectious waste on an occasional basis.

Pay: $21.00 - $24.00 per hour
