Noc Shift ($1.50 more per hour): 10pm-7:30am
1 part-time opening (Monday-Tuesday)

POSITION SUMMARY

The Wellness Counselor provides behavioral support to adolescents who are receiving treatment in a 24/7 psychiatric residential level of care. The Wellness Counselor demonstrates interventions that are trauma-informed and culturally appropriate and responsive, in collaboration with and under the guidance of a multi-disciplinary behavioral health care team.

This position requires passionately serving children and families, strong professional boundaries, organization, adherence to privacy practices, milieu management, behavioral support, clinical documentation, conflict resolution, and proficiency in personal restraints. Training will be provided for each of these core competencies.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE EDUCATION

  • Associates degree or equivalent experience in social services setting.
  • Experience helping individuals with emotional and behavioral difficulties in full-time care, preferably in a residential treatment or hospital setting, or with clients with substance use concerns.
  • Basic understanding of developmental psychology.
  • Basic understanding and willingness to learn age-specific, diagnostic-specific, and cultural-specific needs of the population served.
  • Basic knowledge or willingness to learn trauma-informed practice and inter-disciplinary care coordination.

PREFERRED EDUCATION

  • Bachelor’s degree in a behavioral health related field or equivalent experience.

ELIGIBLE TO EARN DURING EMPLOYMENT

  • QMHA-I or CADC-I or above, or equivalent from another state.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Engage in a culture of feedback through open communication and willingness to receive coaching.
  • Supervise youth in care, as assigned within ratio.
  • Implement behavioral support interventions according to the treatment plan.
  • Complete clinical documentation as assigned.
  • Implement and document emergency safety interventions and abuse reporting according to training and policy.
  • Implements trauma-informed, culturally appropriate and responsive interventions for clients as outlined by the care team.
  • In collaboration with Wellness Leads, implements the treatment plan that supports each client’s progression through a phase system
  • Completes wellness department tasks as trained and assigned.
  • Be up to date on all in-service training requirements.
  • Committed to following legal and ethical norms and expectations as outlined by Employee Code of Conduct, State law, Federal law, Joint Commission, NAADAC and OSHA. Follows reporting procedures to ensure client and staff safety.

KNOWLEDGE:

  • Basic knowledge of applicable laws (e.g. HIPAA, 42 CFR Pt. 2).
  • Knowledge of CPI and CPS principles and trauma-informed behavioral support interventions.
  • Knowledge of how to communicate and maintain appropriate therapeutic boundaries.
  • Basic knowledge of clinical language in documentation.
  • Knowledge of adolescent development and basic psychology.

SKILLS:

  • Application of CPI deescalation skills CPS, and CPR
  • Supervision skills: such as positioning, redirection, engagement and follow through.
  • Accurate and timely clinical documentation.
  • Time management
  • Therapeutic milieu management.
  • Builds therapeutic rapport with appropriate boundaries.

REQUIRED PHYSICAL ABILITIES:

  • To stand, sit, or walk for up to four continuous hours
  • COMMUNICATION: To communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing to the high school grade level
  • SMELL: Discern a variety of odors including hazardous fumes.
  • HEARING: To hear/perceive the nature of sound with no less than 40 dB loss @ Hz, 1000 Hz, and 2000 Hz with or without correction
  • TOUCH: To perform grasping and repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers
  • LIFTING: To occasionally carry or lift program materials of up to 15 pounds. (i.e. clients’ belongings, etc.)
  • VISION: To see with a minimum standard of visual acuity, with or without correction, that will enable people in the role to complete administrative and clerical tasks and visually observe clients on the unit and in therapeutic activities. Ability to distinguish colors
  • RESTRAINTS: To occasionally assist in the physical management of clients, requiring bending, stooping, twisting, grasping and lifting of up to 65 pounds from a squat.
  • BIOHAZARDS: To appropriately handle biohazardous/infectious waste on an occasional basis in accordance with safety policies and training.

Wellness Counselors will receive a Competency Assessment at 90 days. There will be an annual review of the core competencies.

  • We are a 24/7 Residential Youth Rehab facility. Are you available on weekends and holidays?
  • Orientation is 2 Weeks long, Monday to Friday; 9am to 5:30pm. Will you be able to attend this?
