Purpose of Position:

Under direct supervision this position assists with the preparation, packaging, and distribution of school meals on an on-call basis. This requires the ability to adapt quickly to changing work assignments and locations on short notice. By maintaining a positive attitude and promoting teamwork in the Food Production Center, this role ensures students receive a pleasant and timely meal service.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Meal Preparation

    • Preparing/packaging food as directed with portion control and visual inspection of the product.

    • Adhere to recipes to ensure meal pattern compliance.


B. Dish room


  • Washing, rinsing, and sanitizing dishes, glassware, silverware, pots, pans, and other kitchenware using dishwashers or by hand.

  • Keeping the dish room and surrounding areas clean, organized, and free of clutter.

  • Operating and maintaining dishwashing equipment, including dishwashers, disposals, and other relevant machinery.

  • Sorting and storing clean dishes, silverware, and other items in designated areas.

  • Follow daily and weekly cleaning schedules.

  • Adhering to strict food safety and hygiene guidelines to prevent contamination.

  • Report equipment malfunctions, damage, or maintenance needs to the appropriate supervisor.


C. Kitchen Cleanliness

  • Cleaning kitchen equipment and the general food service area.

  • Follow daily and weekly cleaning schedules

  • Assisting with other cleaning duties as assigned to maintain a clean and sanitary environment

D. Other Duties as Assigned

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Food Service Coordinator or their representatives or designees.

  • Complete any and all district-required training.

  • Build collaborative relationships with the building staff.

  • Check your email twice daily, at the beginning and end of your shift, for updates from the Management Team.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required to Perform Essential Job Functions:

  • Progressive food service experience.

  • Must have reliable transportation to get to work each day

  • Ability to read and follow directions and maintain records

  • Knowledge of basic mathematical concepts

  • Commitment to working cross-culturally and valuing diversity

  • Ability to operate various commercial kitchen equipment

  • Strong verbal communications skills

  • Knowledge of large-scale food production

  • Experience working cross-culturally and/or commitment to work toward one’s own cultural competence, i.e., valuing difference/diversity, recognizing personal limitations in one's skills and expertise, and having the desire to learn in these areas.

  • Ability to adapt quickly to changing work assignments on short notice

Required Qualifications:

  • Six (6) months of food service experience.

License Requirements:

  • ServSafe Food Handler Certification or equivalent strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to exert moderate physical effort in manual work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, crawling, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling. Ability to stand for extended periods and walk at a fast pace during shifts. Lift/carry 10 lbs or less constantly; lift/carry 11-20 lbs frequently; lift/carry 21-50 lbs occasionally; and lift/carry 51-100 lbs rarely.

Ability to recognize and identify degrees of similarities or differences between characteristics of colors, shapes, sounds, odors, and textures associated with job-related objects, materials, and tasks. Ability to sustain prolonged visual concentration.

Ability to work under generally safe and comfortable conditions where exposure to site environmental factors such as temperature variations or extremes, odors, noise, machinery, and/or electrical currents may cause discomfort and pose a limited risk of injury.


Working Conditions:


  • Must be available to respond to on-call operational needs as required.

  • Scheduled shifts may run between 6:00 AM and 4:00 PM; flexibility is required.

  • Duties and assignments may shift in response to changing operational priorities.
