POSITION SUMMARY: Madison County Public Schools is seeking a School Nurse for Waverly Yowell Elementary School for the 2026-2027 school year. The successful applicant should possess intellectual depth and breadth, a strong work ethic, a capacity for communication and leadership, noteworthy financial experience, an appreciation of innovative practice, and a track record of proven achievement. The candidate must also possess the capacity to demonstrate flexibility in work requirements, responsibilities assigned, and make mathematical calculations quickly and accurately. Required
- Must hold a valid Virginia License as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) or as a Registered Nurse (RN) and have a current CPR/First Aid Certification.
- Proficiency with basic record keeping programs and office instruments, to include but not limited to, Microsoft Office Suite, fax, phone, copiers, and other various equipment.
- Completes local and state reports as required.
- The ability to exert moderate physical effort, typically involving stooping, kneeling, crouching, pulling or pushing, and carrying of objects and materials of moderate weight.
- Maintain confidentiality of departmental items and documentation.
- Dispenses medication following school policy and procedures.
- Documents and files accident/illness reports.
- Respects the confidentiality of records and information.
- Provides first aid to injured/ill students and staff as well as provides everyday care of acutely ill students and manages children with on-going health needs.
- Responds to health emergencies in assigned school building or in other county schools as requested.
- Assists in developing programs of care of disabled children and children with on-going medical needs.
- Attends meetings with school administrators when required.
- Periodically conducts training sessions for faculty and staff.
- Makes appropriate assessment and referrals for suspected abuse/neglect.
- Review student records for required immunization and develops plans with families and school administration for obtaining immunizations when necessary.
