Job Overview
This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with Madison County regulations, laws, or code of ordinances related to zoning, signage, property maintenance, building code, animal welfare, nuisance animals, public nuisances, as well as litter and soil erosion control. This position requires well-developed program knowledge, sound judgement, and initiative. This position also conducts investigations regarding various codes, ordinances, and policies of Madison County. The incumbent refers complaints and requests to other agencies as appropriate and performs routine filed investigations as assigned. Appearance at Magistrate Court for Code Enforcement-related citations is also required.
Responsibilities
· Respond to inquiries and complaints from citizens, builders, contractors, and utility company personnel related to codes application and interpretation, as well as Zoning Ordinances.
· Issues citations as required for noncompliance with code requirements for Code and P&Z Code.
· Prepares cases for and attends Magistrate Court sessions as required when citations are issued.
· Prepares for and attend when requested called meetings of the Madison County Construction Board of Adjustment and Appeals as required.
· Enforce county and state Ordinance and Regulations.
· Responds to citizens’ complaints; inspects locations for violations; gathers and investigates evidence; and issues notices of violation and court summonses.
· Patrols assigned area in a County vehicle to proactively identify and evaluate problem areas and ordinance violations and determines effective method to resolve violations.
· Attends court hearings; performs re-inspection of properties; process photographic evidence; and prepares evidence for testimony.
· Conducts regular on-site inspections and maintains detailed reports, as it pertains to code violation, animal cruelty, nuisance property, nuisance animals, soil erosion, illicit discharges and storm water pollution.
· Communicates and coordinates open cases and projects between various departments within the county in order to maintain highest level of customer service.
· Respond to inquiries, complaints, and requests for service in a fair, tactful, and firm manner.
· Investigate complaints and mediate resolutions in a timely and tactful manner.
· Prepare accurate and detailed documentation of investigation findings and technical reports. Maintain complex logs, records, and files, make presentations, and testify in court.
· Performs other related job duties as assigned.
