Duties
- Safely operate school buses and paratransit vehicles along designated routes, adhering to traffic laws and safety regulations
- Conduct pre-trip inspections to ensure vehicle safety and mechanical readiness before each shift
- Assist children boarding and exiting the bus, ensuring proper behavior management and child safety protocols are followed
- Communicate effectively with students, parents, school staff, and dispatchers using clear English or multilingual skills when needed
- Maintain accurate logs of routes, student counts, and any incidents that occur during shifts
- Respond promptly to emergencies or unexpected situations with calmness and professionalism
- Uphold customer service standards by providing friendly assistance and fostering a welcoming environment for students and parents
Skills
- Proven experience in bus driving or commercial driving with a valid driver’s license suitable for operating large vehicles
- Strong communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus for engaging diverse communities
- Knowledge of driving safety procedures, traffic laws, and vehicle mechanical basics
- Experience working with children or in childcare settings; ability to manage student behavior effectively
