Madison Academy is seeking a passionate, student-centered 9–12 English Language Arts Teacher committed to developing critical readers, effective writers, and lifelong learners. The ideal candidate will foster a positive classroom culture, utilize data-driven instruction, and inspire students through engaging, standards-aligned lessons that prepare them for college, careers, and civic life.
Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver rigorous, engaging instruction aligned to the Michigan K-12 Standards for English Language Arts.
- Teach courses that may include English 9, English 10, American Literature, British Literature, World Literature, Composition, or other secondary ELA courses as assigned.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse academic, social, and emotional needs of students.
- Utilize formative and summative assessment data to monitor student progress and adjust instruction.
- Implement evidence-based literacy strategies to improve reading comprehension, vocabulary development, analytical thinking, and writing skills.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student performance using district systems.
- Collaborate with colleagues through Professional Learning Communities (PLCs), MTSS, and school improvement initiatives.
- Establish and maintain positive relationships with students, families, and community stakeholders.
- Support school-wide expectations for behavior, attendance, and student engagement.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, parent conferences, and school events.
- Maintain compliance with all district, state, and federal educational requirements.
Qualifications
Required
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate issued by the Michigan Department of Education.
- Secondary English Language Arts endorsement (BA) on a Michigan teaching certificate.
- Ability to meet all State of Michigan certification requirements.
- Demonstrated knowledge of adolescent literacy and effective instructional practices.
- Strong classroom management and communication skills.
- Ability to successfully pass required criminal background checks.
Preferred
- Master's degree in Education or a related field.
- Experience teaching high school English Language Arts.
- Knowledge of MTSS, differentiated instruction, and culturally responsive teaching.
- Experience using educational technology to enhance instruction.
- Familiarity with NWEA MAP, PSAT/SAT, and M-STEP assessment practices.
