What are the responsibilities and job description for the Back Room Manager - Art Studio position at MADE: my art + design experience?
We're MADE: my art design experience, a two-time Best of Westchester studio in Mamaroneck where people come for pottery painting, wet clay, mosaics, parties, camps and weekly themed art experiences. We're looking for the person who keeps the magic running behind the scenes and hiring now for a long-term role with a flexible schedule. Training is a big part of this job, so we're looking for someone who wants to grow with us.
What you'll do
Kiln glaze
- Glaze customer pieces, then load and unload the kilns
- Clean and vacuum the kilns to keep them in good shape
- Manage the glaze tank: strain, top off and replace glaze as needed
Quality control
- Check every finished piece before it goes home, because customer satisfaction is the whole point
- Spot issues with fired pieces and re-fire when needed
Tracking customers
- Track every customer-painted piece so nothing misses its pick-up date
- Manage customer bags for pickup
- Reach out to customers directly if there's an issue with their piece
Leadership
- Lead the back room day-to-day, set priorities and delegate to supporting staff
- Occasionally help in the main studio when things get busy

- Organized, reliable and self-directed
- Clear, friendly communicator when reaching out to customers
