What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seafood Import & Cold-Chain Compliance Advisor position at Madagascar Gourmet Imports?
About Madagascar Gourmet Imports
We bring premium specialty products from Madagascar — vanilla, chocolate, spices, and select seafood — into South Florida's luxury hospitality market. We're in the early-stage market-entry phase for a premium imported seafood and caviar pilot serving Miami / Fort Lauderdale / Palm Beach luxury buyers.
The role
This is not a sales role. We're looking for a Miami / South Florida-based advisor or consultant with direct, hands-on experience importing seafood, caviar, or similarly regulated refrigerated perishables into the United States.
The immediate need is import pathway validation, compliance readiness, cold-chain handling, port/customs coordination, and practical operating guidance for the pilot. Sales channels are already being developed separately.
What you'll help us with
Validating the U.S. import pathway for premium seafood and caviar (origin documentation, prior notice, entry filings). FDA Prior Notice and food facility registration readiness. Customs broker selection and clearance coordination at PortMiami and MIA air cargo. USFWS / CITES documentation for regulated species (sturgeon/caviar in particular). Cold-chain handling from origin through port-of-entry to refrigerated storage. Local refrigerated warehousing, 3PL, and last-mile cold delivery options in South Florida. HACCP and food safety expectations for imported seafood. Practical operating guidance and red flags from someone who has actually done this.
You're a fit if you can say
"I have personally cleared imported seafood, caviar, or similar regulated perishables through U.S. ports, worked with customs brokers, filed FDA Prior Notice, handled Fish & Wildlife / CITES documentation where applicable, and coordinated refrigerated storage and local cold-chain delivery."
Ideally you have:
Direct experience with seafood imports into U.S. ports (Miami strongly preferred). Hands-on familiarity with FDA seafood import requirements and HACCP. Working relationships with U.S. customs brokers and refrigerated 3PLs. USFWS / CITES experience for regulated species (caviar a strong plus). Based in or regularly on the ground in South Florida.
Structure & compensation
Flexible — hourly advisory, project retainer, or pilot-phase consulting engagement. If the pilot proves out, this can extend into an ongoing compliance/operations advisory role.
How to apply
Apply through LinkedIn with a short note describing the imported perishables you've personally cleared into the U.S., the ports and brokers you've worked with, and any FDA / Fish & Wildlife / CITES experience that's directly relevant.
